Default RX-8 + LS1

With all the 1993-1995 RX-7's getting LS1 swaps done to it... have there been any RX-8's with the swap as well?

I'd like to know how much one of these swaps would cost if anybody else has the experience or information. Thanks

Haven't heard of it yet... check rx8club for this swap... If your going to do the labor yourself, all you really need is engine/tranny mounts, engine harness, exhaust, driveshaft, diff... It be up in the 10-12k if you sent it to like henson(sp?) for a turn key LS1 car....

I talked to the guys who do the ls1 fd swaps about this about a year ago (the one's in georgia, will have to look up the name). I had a line on a theft recovery rx8 for cheap. They offered to give me a discount if I'd let them do it because at the time, it hadn't been done. It should work though, I think I've heard of turbo motor and 3 rotor swaps, just like into the fd, so the ls1 should go right in.

anything can be done if money's not an issue. if they can put supra engines in s2ks and ford v8s in miatas, i'm sure an ls1 in an rx8 won't be any different. my only concern would be the weight differences between the renesis motor and the ls1. that might screw up the near 50/50 balance. but i guess who cares if you only plan on going straight?

yah, the TT version in the RX-7 actually weighed more then the LS1 engines, but the renesis is far less complicated and may weigh a lot less. But, I bet it's not a huge difference and something that you might be able to make much less of an issue with suspension changes. Can the frame of the RX-8 take the twisting power of something like the LS7? That would be sweet!

a LS2 fully dressed is a bit over 400lbs, the 13B thats in the RX8 wieghs around 285lbs. theres a heafty wieght difference, but not so much that it would ruin the dynamic of the RX8. its more or less the difference of a RX8 with a driver and a RX8 with a driver and passenger.

Yeah, Henson hasn't done it yet. Most of the RX8 conversions have been to the 20B (3 rotor) so far.

Wow, that is really light. I didn't realize those engines were so light. You would want that LS2/7 pushed way behind the front axle for sure.
