Default RX7 vs S2000

How is the overall performance of an RX7? Does anyone have experience with them? Do all 3rd gen come with the twin turbo's. It seems a whole lot of them are rebuilt, what should I look out for with a 94 20k rebuilt eng? Thanks in advance.

Do a search! Recently, there have been a couple huge threads comparing these two cars. I don't think there's a need for another one.

I think Sports Car Illustrated and Road and Track both had used buyer's guides. The engine does seem to need changing earlier than a lot of other cars. But I seem to remember reading that changing one out wasn't terribly expensive, sort of like paying for a major service (~$700 - 1000)

way more potential than an S2K will ever have, thats a fact. As for handling, its a light car, but I dont know if its as "twitchy" as all of you S2K fans love to talk about. At 2800 lb's, I cant imagine it handling too bad.

If you are worried about reliability, do a LS1 or LS2 swap, you will run better times, keep the same weight, and have almost the same if not way better infinite power potential.

The RX7 has more power potential because it came as a twin turbo engine from the factory car, so compare that to a 2.0L N/A 4-cyl, of course any turbo engine (or big NA engine) will have more power potential.

As for the handling, BrockLT1, let's just say the RX7 handles a million, scratch that, a billion times better than a Camaro. Very few cars in the history of cars could handle as good as an RX7 from the factory. You don't "drive" the car, you become one with it. That's to give you a brief idea of its handling and driving characteristics, Brock.

The RX7, specifically the 13b in the 3rd gens has a higher power potential, if you want to say it like that, not because of the factory turbo, but because it's a wankel rotary. I'm certainly not going to start a large piston vs. rotary thread here, but to the original poster... If you spend some time on any of the big rx-7 forums, you'll get a feel for the cars very quickly. Owning a turbo rotary car is probably as far as you can get from owning a honda, but when it's running the way you want, you'll forget just about everything else in your life.

The last RX7TT is a great car! But you'll never keep all those seals from blowing (or so my rotary-racer friends tell me). In stock form it is almost competitive with the Z06 vette at auto-x. "Turbo surprise" is why most top drivers jumped ship to the Z06 in SuperStock.
