Default RX7 worth the hassle?

Have any of you considered a 3rd Gen RX7 as a cheaper S2000 alternative? I know engine/turbo rebuilds are part of life with them, but a nice one with a recent rebuild can be had for less than $15,000. Do any of you have any experience with them? I love they styling and the handling is supposed to be great. I know the reliability is the main issue. Is it even worth considering?

Thx

I had one. I like it more than my NSX. But reliability IS the biggest problem. I liked it alot, infact it was my favorite car. But if I could do it again, I'd probably pass...it was just too much trouble (especialy since it was my daily), unless I was a millionare or had dozens of other cool cars to play with.

I was over at Sevenstock, and I was really tempted with buying one to play with. Great car, and I really do like it's looks. The one true shortcoming is it's reliability. I have a friend who absolutely worshipped RX's but through 3 of the cars he had to replace 4 engines, no matter what what he tried to do to improve the reliability of the cars. He wound up getting an M3...and now they are having problems. Who knew. I might buy one, when I get a sedan as an everyday car.

My brother had one and one of my best friends has one. The reliability is a factor but it can be minimized. With a proper rebuild, engines can last longer than the factory build did. Additionally MAJOR hp can be accomplished and at a very very reasonable price. It is fairly easy to get 600rwhp for like 10k. go to www.rx7club.com for more info!

Thats the problem though....I did ALL the reliability mods (all done at Rotary Power in Gardena...Jeff was responsible for building Abel's earlier motors) and the car still had problems. I'm not just talking about the popping of apex seals or motor rebuilds...its more the OTHER stuff...sequential systems, pulsation dampner, air seperation tank, etc, etc.....Still one the best looking cars to come out of Japan, though.

Only worth it if you have another car to drive daily.

This is simple... its all a matter as how deep your pockets are...

Its really easy to mod a RX7 and it sure is a beauty.

Would I take it as a "cheaper" alternative to the S2000? NO.

I had one before... my brother has another one now... I always wanted one, I will pass at my next oportunity. Nice looking... but I'll admire the one's sitting at other people's garages...
