Pick up an issue of Car and Driver, the preliminary numbers released by Mazda for the RX8 are not impressive, 0-60 in 6.3 sec and 1/4 mile passed in 14.9 sec. Not much of a contender. Especially when it's posted by the manufacturer, which usually means that the numbers are a bit on the optimistic side.

Saw it at the autoshow and I am not a fan. The styling is generic, the rear side window is UGLY. Does not go with the lines of the rest of the car. Reliability of a rotory motor is still shaky at best.

Couldn't pay me to trade my S2k for it. I would wait until the RX7 is re-released or get the s2k, the G35 coupe, or the STi.

Is going faster all your concerned about?
The cars are totally different. The best advise I can offer is to test drive both before forming any misconceptions about either. You will know from personal experience which you would prefer to own.

WARNING: a test drive in the S might change your perception of reality. Do the RX8 first.

Autoweek took pains to say say that the RX-8 is a "sporty car", but NOT a "sportscar". However, they liked it a lot overall. Very solid, very easy handling, very comfortable. Link:

I agree with Twohoo, RX-8 is between a sports car and a sports coupe. It doesnt perform or owning as much driving fun as the S2K. However, it will be more fun than G35 some other sportscoupe.

Personally, I can careless about comfort and space. I still stick with S2000.

As a formal owner of RX-7.....thats a complete different story.

What does it take to become a formal owner? Do you only drive it while wearing a tux?
