From s2000 to American V8
I've been on a real bad v8 fix the last 12 months or so and I've finally managed to put the s2000 for sale and start browsing...a drive in a c5 z06 sealed the deal for me. Sure I could boost the S and be faster or what not, but I've owned almost every kind of car there is, swapped hondas, wrx, evo V, R33, s15, and most recently the s2000 and the one thing I've never had is a american, gas guzzling, v8 so I'm determined to step out of my comfort zone and get into something with one.
Some of the cars I was favoring are the Terminator Cobra, GTO, C6 Z06, and lastly a LSx swapped s14 chassis (don't say swap a v8 into the S because as much as I love the concept, I wouldn't consider it into an s2k especially not my clean tittle'd 75k AP1)
Obviously the C6 Z06 would be the best performing, easy choice if it wasn't the most expensive option out of all of them and unlike the other options I'd have to do a little more saving to do it, not to mention the only one without a backseat which is another reason owning the s2000 has been difficult as far as using it as much as I would like even with a daily.
Without dragging this out, I'm wondering if anyone has jumped from an s2000 into any of these or if there's anything else that you might have switched over to/recommend that I didn't consider, and just some general feedback on your experience with the car

How about a C6 with the Z51 package? I bet you could find a pretty nice one for around $30,000, if that is within the top end of your price range.
Still not a good interior, but better than a C5's.
2011+ Mustang GT should fit the bill as well, perhaps one with the track/brembo package.
With that said, nothing will beat the performance bargain of the C5 Z06, so if you aren't bothered the least bit by the interior of the car, go for it.
Just be patient in your search, and get the best deal on the nicest one you can.

I did not go directly from an s2k to a Vette, I had a few turbo/awd cars in between.
The C6 feels more "lazy" than the s2000; the s2000 responds to your inputs instantly, and makes you feel like you're wearing a glove. For me, the C6 feels more floaty and is slower to react to driver inputs in comparison. That's not to say the C6 isn't a competent car in the bends, as its lap times show. At the same time, the C6 is much more spacious (especially the trunk) and laid back. You can actually cruise in comfort, and hear your passenger, for example.
The low end torque. That's why I wanted, nay, needed a V8 in a relatively lightweight car. I drove the 5.0 Mustang and the Coyote needed revs to move. I was tired of waiting for boost in a 2.0 / 2.5L car. The C6 Z51 package also provides shorter 1-3 gears so the acceleration is even more pronounced. I daily my C6 and I basically don't ever need to drive past 1.5k RPM, but I do, as I drive the car as it's intended whenever traffic allows
For me the first test drive sold the car. It was everything I imagined and more. 2 years later I still love the car. This coming from a guy who used to change cars once per year for the past 12 years. YMMV.It's also my only car that I haven't modded within the first few months of ownership. If I were you I'd definitely try it. You already tested the C5Z favorably, which is more visceral and raw than the C6. But part of why I enjoy the C6 so much is that it can be relatively comfy and laid back when you want it to be. It's not high strung all the time like some of my Evos / STis etc.
Any more questions feel free to ask!
We are going to need to start an S2000 -> Corvette club soon.
Honestly, if you like the C5Z I would just go for it, the value proposition is awesome on those. 400hp for under 20k, plus personally I love the way they look. C5Z > C6 looks wise. Test driving the C5Z is what eventually started me down the path of getting a Corvette. I would have an extra 30k in my pocket if I had just bought one instead of another s2000...

I am leaning towards getting an LS3 grand sport coupe with 3LT package etc. Really good deals on those now and love how the widebody C6 looks! I found some with the special edition interios with suede and red stitching and look alot better than the standard interior I think. I would upgrade nav unit and should help with interior looks a bit. And of course replace shift knob. Love the NPP exhaust and Magnetic ride control would be nice.

C7 for me in February.
