S2000 to Cayman. Pulled the trigger.
While shopping for a 335 coupe, we happened to stop by the Porsche dealership with the faint hope of finding a CPO Boxster that fell in our price range. Much to our surprise, a 2008 CPO Cayman fit the bill, and after a test drive we were fired up to pull the trigger. I always thought the Cayman was a logical extension of the S2000.
Performance wise the base Cayman and S2000 feel similar. First gear in both seem a bit underwhelming, and second gear is where the fun begins. The s2000 revs higher and the Cayman has more torque. The s2000 still felt more "go-cartish" and lighter, and the Cayman feels more solid. The S2000's steering is much lighter, where the Porsche has a sublime feel, that only now I understand. I do miss the convertible aspect of the S2000 but the handling prowess of the Cayman tends to make me forget about that fact. Insurance rates and gas milage is similar in both. Both cars are very fun in their own way, and the similarities make me feel like the s2000 is still around.
I'll post pics next week. Thanks for reading.

seems like a base model, since it feels the same as far as power concern i suppose
i thought about it once, i test drove one,,,, i could not quiet justify trading my CR in for boxster S

It is the base model. We traded our 330ci for it.
I owned the s2000 two years ago and moved to a Lex IS. I swore I would get another s2000 again but the wife liked the ride of the Cayman.

I've made the same move myself from a 2001 AP1 (with 4.77 gears) to a 2007 base Cayman.
The increase in torque is nice... and the noise the engine makes above 5k sounds great
The handling is so neutral, it's intoxicating. The S2000 turns in sharper IMO but the way the Cayman can go so perfectly through corners just feels like it's on a different level. The interior is a huge upgrade for me too, with really comfortable seats and comfier suspension.
I still miss the S2000. A 9k engine with the top down is something I'll never forget.
