everyone has a 911. bill gates and george lucas had nsx-s. think different.
neways for the original poster, a base 996 will be quicker than an NSX, if im not mistaken...
other things... the 911 is almost always gonna be more expensive to maintain than the NSX...
from what i read, 997's significantly improved the chassis and suspension tuning over 996's... so the NSX maybe more refined from a ride quality perspective...
you must drive both...
oh, and only the 911 is a "rear engine"... the NSX is a "mid-engine" ...
Try checking out edmunds.com and look at the "true cost to own". It should give you an estimate of how much things should "should" be. Of course, every car is different and different problems arise, but it should give you a pretty good baseline.
911>NSX
With the NSX the only thing your getting is paying big $$$$ for a car that is under powered, which IMO is the reason you see more 911's and is the reason the longer you hold on to your S, the harder it will be to sell. Too many good cars with more power and options that the demographics of the people who would buy an S are getting steered to.

I think you'd find a much wider range of prices for the 911 than the NSX. Pretty much any decent NSX will be $45-70k. There will be 911s in that range too, but 911s will be more apt to dip below $45 if they're 6-8 years old or more.
Tough call for me. I think I'd take the NSX for everyday drivability, but I work in a place where people do drive their 911s daily. I like them both pretty equally.

The NSX isn't rear engine
.
Anyways, that's a tough decision. If you could get some power mods onto the NSX, i'd take that over the 911. I think it looks better too. I love 911's, but the base models don't do that much for me.
