S2000 to M3........
Hey Christy sorry you're getting flamed but I'm going to call it as I see it, and maybe it will enlighten you to some of the response you have recieved.
Basically you are posting on a board on which a large amount of the members are auto enthusiasts or fanatics. I don't think any of them are trying to put down your decision to lease an M3, but I think they are baffled and astonished at your lack of concern with the mechanics of the car. To us a car is more than just nice "xenon" lights, or gorgeous looks, it's a combination of styling, performance, and heritage combined to make what we believe is a great car. So the reason most people are being insulting or skeptical is that they do not understand, or appreciate your point of view. Very few if any of the people that posted on this thread would buy a car without ever driving it, and you just did. Also you confuse the situation even more when you state you don't like BMW's, think the M3 is just a "hopped up 3 series", and yet you are buying one. You never tell us why you are buying this car, other than it's the right decision for you. What went into making this decision? If it's not the car's looks, or its handling/performance, or the marque... then why are you buying it? I think most of us just want to understand where you are coming from and then maybe we could be more sympathetic to your point of view.
Either way, enjoy your new car and don't leave the board feeling anger or distaste just because a few people could not gentlemen and explain their feelings clearly, and wait for an explanation.

Lets look at it this way.
1. You lease a 2003 S2000 because of the headlights, and dont drive it ahead of time because you cant drive standard.
2. While you are learning to drive standard, you mod the hell out of your brand new S2000; coilovers, exhaust, plus, plus plus plus. Again, while you are learning to drive a standard.
3. Unfortunately, an incident happens with your S2000 while someone else was driving. Ive seen the pictures - this can be repaired without any lasting effects on the car.
4. However - the car cant be returned to the perfection that it once had in your eyes - you have to rid yourself of your fully modded S2000 about a year after you got it (and I would say while you continue to learn how to drive a standard).
5. Still learning to drive standard (IMO it takes many years of REAL driving to learn how to drive one properly), you test drive a new 2004 S2000 as a possible replacement. Same killer headlights, but they've dumbed down the suspension too much for your liking despite it still being one of the best handling cars you can realistically buy in the world. Not good enough for you.
6. So maybe you'll get an M3. But it has to be a standard because you'd get bored of a SMG too quickly. You've never driven an M3 either, but yet you appear to aleady have ordered a ton of mods for that car aswell. Im sure that you'll continue to learn how to drive with a stick....
Is it clear Christy? Im sure that you are a super groovy and great girl, and you have every right to get whatever car you want and do whatever you want to it, but calling the 2004 S2000 not up to snuff is rediculus. There are very very few people on this board who can drive this car even 80% of its capacity and I would put money on that there is not a single person here that is that much better than the car that a 2004 wouldnt be good enough. Remember, you're still learning here - as are most of us.
Regardless - Im a monster M3 lover. You've chosen a great car; I suspect it will be my next car aswell. Enjoy it. Learn how to drive it and then drive the hell out of it. But make sure you give yourself enough time to learn about it - there is so much about the S2000 that I can guarantee you that you've never seen. IMO.

I never drove the S when I ordered it back in '99 ... of course I knew I wanted it and I knew I wouldn't get bored of it cuz I'm learning how to drive the car to it's potential everyday of the year ... even in the snow
Wow! Someone even went so far as to call you (Christy) a bitch.
That's very rough!
And someone said S2000 and NSX forums are much nicer than BMW forums.
Bull!
Let me congratulate you on your new ride. Nice ride it'll be! I presume most of these people are jealous that you could jump from one ride to the next so effortlessly. More power to you, I'd say.
You'll like the M3 overall, because it'll be faster than your S, more comfortable, etc. But you won't love driving it like the way you drove your S. Trust me on that. Remember how your S used to put a smile on your face everytime? The M3 will make you smile too, but not as much.

Can you "rent" me a new ride too?
Oh, when I drove the new '04 S2000, I didn't feel much of a difference in the way it drove than mine. Maybe your S's suspension was so tweaked out, but you could do the same for an '04...just imo.

Hi Christy. Congrats on the new M3. I read your posts on the m3forum a while back. I'm your opposite -- just sold my '03 M3 and am getting an '04 S2000. Hope I don't regret it. I used to have no interest in roadsters until I got the chance to test drive the new turbocharged MazdaSpeed Miata a few weeks ago at a Mazda event. Fell in love w/ roadsters right then. Figured the Lotus Elise won't be readily available for another year or more, so the S2000 was the obvious choice. I'm glad to hear that you never got tired of your S2000.
I'm sure you'll love the M3 -- lots of power (I'm going to miss that the most), braking is amazing, and free scheduled maintainance!
Sorry about all the flames. A few of the contributors to this thread have been downright spiteful and vindictive.

Like my 2001 CLK430, I chose that car without even a test drive, because back then, it was my dream car. I thought it was the most beautiful car ever made my Mercedes.....back then, of course
