Saab 9-2X
My parents are looking for a new car. They need something that is high in utility (AWD, space, ok gas mileage), so I've suggested the Saab 9-2X. The reason I suggested that car over a WRX wagon is because I can get them a significant discount on the Saab, but not the Subaru. They're not looking to spend too much money, so an Audi/BMW/Merc wagon is out of the question. I'd rather not suggest an SUV because they're numb and boring. They live in the suburbs of NY, not the wilderness, so an Explorer is unnecessary. They can both drive a standard transmission.
How are these cars selling right now? Can they get a decent price adjustment just by walking into the dealership and negotiating, or should I pursue the discount I can get?
How is the reliability of the 9-2X/Impreza?

According too the GM January 2005 sales report, Saab sold a TOTAL of only 205 9-2Xs in Jan 05.

So that extrapolates to less than 2500 units/yr, which might just make it the worst selling car available in the US right now. It's essentially identical to the Impreza, only it costs $5000 more. Have your parents considered just getting a regular Impreza TS or WRX wagon. It seems like everyone else has.

Yeah, the only reason I suggested this to them was because I can get a discount from Saab, but not Subaru. I kind of figured they weren't selling well, and was wondering if Saab was discounting them significantly at the dealerships (they are a GM subsidiary, and all GM cars are discounted). Still, it may work out that an Impreza cost less, even after typical GM discounts. I'll have to just tell them to go check one out and see what the dealers actually want for one.
if you have X-plan you should get invoice or 1% below invoice on MOST gm cars.....1200 sounds wrong if you have a GM supplier discout, i had one for quite some time and when i looked at saabs i was getting invoice(through my discount plan) PLUS rebates.......you either have a shit discount plan, or the person you talked to knows nothing
BTW maybe you should cross shot a the new legacy gt wagon?

Subaru discounts are not available with the GM supplier discount.
