Hard bags. Over the years I've only had trouble with soft luggage getting stolen. Sign me up for a Trunk Monkey though...

there are a variety of security measures you can make for a parked bike, but the end result will always be the same: if the thieves want your bike, they will take it. there are nice alarms with 2-way pager remotes, you can chain your bike to a pole, drill a heavy duty eye-bolt into your parking space and chain it there, disc locks, steering lock, etc. they are all viable measures but are all compromiseable.

the one security measure i have found most effective is also the least expected. I have a VERY crappy looking $20 bike cover I bought from Wal-Mart a few years back and put that on the bike when i park it somewhere long term, or overnight. I just keep it in the trunk. It makes the bike look so shitty, who would think there is an '03 Limited Ed. R1 under there?

Scorpio 2 way alarm system. Don't park a motorcycle unattended it's just asking for it. If you have to, install the previously mentioned alarm system and stay close to the bike. They are just too easy to steal.
