Sharing some Ferrari love
thanks for sharing, glad you like it but our impression of the car was not as good as yours.
The best F-car to day in our opinion is the 360 Stradale. The 355 feels lethargic and slow at best but the engine note is pretty good. I remember driving it after getting out of an M3 and asking myself where is the power. Granted it is an older car so not bad for it's time.
We are both s2000 owners and I quite honestly I'll grab the keys to any of our supercharged s2000's over the 355 any day if you are talking about fun/performance.

I am coming from an RSX to 993 to S2000. My next car will most likely be a F355 as well. The F355 and the NSX are my favorite cars and the only cars that actually make me turn my head around to look at while driving.
Are you planning on doing maintenance yourself or take it somewhere? Since my previous cars were all reliable, minus the always leaking oil no matter what was done 993, I am very curious about maintenance on a F355. And yes I have read the horror stories on the Ferrari forums.
Yellow makes me think of the car used in Boiler Room to show how rich those guys were supposed to be.

But...certainly since you can afford to buy the 355, surely you can afford the maintenance, and you have so much money to throw around it doesn't bother you to pay a premium on simple parts, right?
I have ~$9000 or so in upcoming maintenance: new clutch and engine out. If I decide to get the hvac fixed it could be something simple, but if the hvac ecu is bad that's about $5000. I also have a CEL due to some sort of emission issue; it may be the o2 sensors or the cat ecus. If it's the cat ecus that will be ~$1500.
I recommend avoiding spiders, as the tops are unreliable and very expensive to fix if broken. The hydraulics need to be maintained regularly and properly. However, Spiders are easily the cheapest and easiest to find. GTS and GTBs are more rare and expensive.
Even outside of the issues I will actually get fixed, there are a myriad of other issues that remain that I'll just leave. It is literally one thing after another with these cars, it will never be trouble-free.
Sometimes the power seats and top cease to function, and it takes a few restarts of the car for them to work again.
I honestly wouldn't recommend buying one.

Even if money wasn't an issue, I think I'd pass on owning one simply because of the time and hassle involved in all the potential issues. There is a point of diminishing returns, and there are other cars that offer a visceral/emotional sportscar experience as well without as much headache.I'd love to have a friend that owns one though
Yeah even if someone has money to just toss around, the time involved sounds like a PITA. The F355 is still high on my list as next car to get, but parts pricing scares me no matter what. The Porsche I thought was expensive, and most fixes on that car were custom pieces smaller shops made. I guess that does answer my question if the car is hourly labor expensive or parts expensive. In that regard I can't imagine going from a Japanese built Honda to an Italian car. Even after owning an electrical gremlin older Porsche.
So where are the video clips of you revving the engine!!

the 360 is generally a better car than the 355 in nonsubjective measurements. Subjective consideration is another matter.
