7.4 second 0-60mph
15.8 second 1/4 mile
2860lbs

At least they're competing with the weight

That's a good target to shoot for. Somehow I find it hard to believe that there was no brake fade after several hard laps at the track. I can get the S2000's brakes to fade in a couple of laps, and most likely the S2000's brakes are better than the Solstice.

that's a good sign....at least they know what made a good sports car
whether they were able to implement on this lofty goal is another question.......

The article says its on a backroad, driving it "as hard as they would on a track". I could never introduce brake fade on backroads, they lack the technical turns and the other elements of track that can induce fade. And yes, the S2000 probably has superior brakes.

My Integra Type-R could not get brake fade under any backroad conditions, but unfortunately it got stolen before I could track it (I was signed up for a track event that was going to take place the week after it got stolen!). I suspect that there would have been brake fade, however.

To be honest, I think the Solstice/Sky will be a pretty legit car in terms of handling dynamics. I've read about how Lutz was shooting for a slightly softer riding S2000. The car was designed from the ground up...its not a parts bin Frankenstein.

I've always been pro-import for quality's sake, and I hope this new platform isnt just another POS from Detroit. They really need to get their act together in terms of interior materials and fit and finish. I'm pulling for the US manufacturers...I really am. But if they keep producing crap...the sales will continue to plummet. I think targeting the S2000 was a very good idea indeed.

I'm not sure I'd ever buy one when there are cars like the S2000 out there...but I might recommend one to my girlfriend

The top isnt that bad...the rear fairings line up with the back end of the top.

Sure, s2k's might have been what they were shooting for, but I don't think they've even come close to hitting the target.

Once I drive one, maybe I'll change my mind, but from Saturn's (or even GM's, in general) current quality and interior fit and finish, I doubt I'll be impressed. They have come a long way from the past, but even their flagship sedans and SUV's lack the luster of, say a Lexus, BMW or even Acura. i.e. My friend's Escalade feels pretty cheap on the inside (exterior styling, I still like). Can we get a little less plastic pieces from a $50k vehicle?
