It's pretty much the GR Yaris but in Corolla, 5 door form. I agree with OP's predictions, but it's a shame because the GR Yaris weighed 2800lbs. Looking at the Corolla hatch, the car shouldn't be too much bigger if at all over the GR Yaris which is nice, but yeah probably will end up being heavier which is a shame, probably due to using less exotic materials to try and keep prices down. I figure that Toyota actually wants to make money on this one this time around.

They are raising the HP of the G16 to offset the additional weight. I think it will be a few hundred pounds lighter than a STi while close to same power levels. The Corolla hatch is still a compact car on par with the last Focus. She’s not a porker to start with.
With the adjustable drive modes varying power between the front and rear half shafts, it’s the hatch STi many of us have been looking for. My deposit has been in for weeks to beat the punters who’ll rush in April 1st.
The motor has turned out to be quite the little gem. It took 511 whp to figure out it needs aftermarket HG and bolts. The block is extremely stout. It will be a tuner’s car on par with the EVO motor.
I have a R53 mini that is used for autocross/daily duty that is currently looking for a replacement. The GRC might be the one, although would have loved a GRY due to the two-door nature.
