Exclamation STI Replacement (new GR Corolla)

Makes its world debut on Thursday night. Funny how one 300hp AWD JDM offering exits right as another enters...

https://pressroom.toyota.com/the-wai...gr-sports-car/

My prediction is 300 hp (rumor is 296), 6sp manual, AWD, 3300lb, and $40k MSRP

Interesting, this is the first I have heard of this. Since it is AWD it may be a possible daily driver for me. Looking forward to seeing it.

It's pretty much the GR Yaris but in Corolla, 5 door form. I agree with OP's predictions, but it's a shame because the GR Yaris weighed 2800lbs. Looking at the Corolla hatch, the car shouldn't be too much bigger if at all over the GR Yaris which is nice, but yeah probably will end up being heavier which is a shame, probably due to using less exotic materials to try and keep prices down. I figure that Toyota actually wants to make money on this one this time around.

The big plus with this is the corolla is that it will be far more reliable than any boosted subaru ever was.

Good luck getting one. Limited availability and huge mark ups. dealers by me want 10k to 15k over MSRP. Going to be a car for flippers first.

They are raising the HP of the G16 to offset the additional weight. I think it will be a few hundred pounds lighter than a STi while close to same power levels. The Corolla hatch is still a compact car on par with the last Focus. She’s not a porker to start with.

With the adjustable drive modes varying power between the front and rear half shafts, it’s the hatch STi many of us have been looking for. My deposit has been in for weeks to beat the punters who’ll rush in April 1st.

The motor has turned out to be quite the little gem. It took 511 whp to figure out it needs aftermarket HG and bolts. The block is extremely stout. It will be a tuner’s car on par with the EVO motor.

I want one, but I don't want to play the dealer's games to get one at a premium. If it settles down, I'd love for a daily driver.

My deposit is in for MSRP only and in state but definitely not in DFW. I also requested delivery in Nov 2023 so I have plenty of lead time.

There is a dealer in DFW that will sell at MSRP but they won’t be accepting deposits until after the reveal.

I have a R53 mini that is used for autocross/daily duty that is currently looking for a replacement. The GRC might be the one, although would have loved a GRY due to the two-door nature.

Please be good...
