I'm seeing a trend and I'm WTH we are seeing more and more cars, trucks, SUVs, crossovers...
I'm posting some photos of what I'm talking about...for the most part...these are NOT FUNCTIONAL and should not incorporated into the design...some are clever...like the new Lincoln MKS and the new Mazda RX-8...but some are terrible like the Ford Focus and the Inifiniti FX50...some are "traditional" like the Buick Lacrosse...but c'mon...STOP THE MADNESS!!!
Yep, they're the new vinyl stickers. One opening on each side is good for 50hp.
As far as Buick goes, they had the porthole tradition, so I don't think they count. It doesn't mean Buick doing a bad porthole job is good, but it's still understandable. The Cadillac's are more understandable, but again not entirely warranted.
As far as the Fords, the Lancer, the Jeep and Mazdas go, I agree, it is getting dumb. But I also think Jaguar's use of this detail is poorly executed for such an expensive car. What surprised me was when I saw them on the new FX50/55/whatever.
Companies are just looking for excuses to make cars seem as artsy and well-tailored as the American icons of the 40-60s. The added detail these days feel less authentic. I will say though, that this trend is marginally less annoying than the fake intake scoops on any number of cars.

I knew you wouldn't let that one go.
I don't recall the dollar being the issue we were fighting about though. Yep, I checked and it wasn't. Regardless, the net effect is Slamnasty 1, you 0, cuz it ain't coming.
