Default Thinking about ditching the 335 for a pickup truck

I am finally getting ready to move out of the city, to a place where I can have some land and some animals, so a 400hp 3 series doesn't make too much sense anymore as my only car. I am thinking about two options: 1. Sell the BMW and get a nice, full-size truck, with plenty of options (ford f-150 fx4, for example), or 2. Keep the BMW, and get a compact pickup or compact suv to do the dirty work. A few things on my mind: I have a car package with my job, and I get compensated for my gas. Anything over 22mpg city will get me 100% reimbursement, while I would only get 75% for 17 mpg. Also, my BMW is only 2.5 years old, but it already has 95,000 on the clock, so I would probably still owe a few thousand on it if I sold it. Finally, the insurance on my primary car is paid by work, so staying with one car would keep my insurance bill at $0.

So, I know there are a lot of variables there, but does anyone have any input on the direction they would go, and which vehicles they would choose? I know this is an s2000 forum, not a pickup forum, but there are plenty of car nuts on here, as well as some guys who own trucks to haul their track toys, so I thought I'd still be able to get some valuable input.

Thanks!

^ this. A 10+ y.o. full-size truck will do the job as well as a new truck for tens of thousands less.

When you say you're moving out of the city do you mean a suburban place with land or farther out? Do you need the truck for trips to Home Depot, or for hauling wood, rocks, etc. Will you take it off paved roads?

I can't say if you should sell the BMW or not but as for the truck, a used full size beater truck is probably a great fit. Really, do you want to drive a truck all the time? Having a second car/truck is always comforting since you have a back up. If the beater isn't too beat up then you have something that is tolerable when you need it but you can have a real car the rest of the time. If you think you need to downgrade the BMW perhaps a 330 or last gen Acura RL and the truck.

Finding a nice used diesel pickup will serve you well. Those things can run well into the 200K mark and beyond. But if you're averaging over 30K miles per year (and I'm assuming it'll be even more if you move to a rural area) I wouldn't want to get a truck of any kind as my daily. That is a LOT of mileage and a lot of time spent in your car. You want something nice, plush, comfortable, reliable and at least semi-enjoyable to drive. It appears you like the 335i, so keep that and get a beater truck.

Sounds like ur dd needs lean away from the truck, indicating ur truck will realitically be a low useage vehicle. Im with everyone else here, if ur buying the truck for dirty work, why buy new when there are gobs of used trucks that will serve the purpose just as well. Still, that bimmer is getting up there, but id let my work buy something i want and spend my own cash on. Dirty job bater.
