since you own an E36 ill just ask this here
im in the market for a four door car, and i was looking at the E36 M3 Sedan since the prices are SO low now.
how are they? any known problems? most ive seen are sitting around 90k miles, will the car hold out for another 60k+ miles??
sorry to ask in here, but i found it better then opening a new thread for this.
I love mine....

I still think if you want the E36 m3 sedan to get a 2003-2005 E46 ZHP instead

I have a '97 M3 sedan with 113k miles. At the 90k mark a few things will need to be refreshed or there's no way the car will drive the way it's meant to drive. Off the top of my head...shocks, RSMs, RTABs, cooling system. If the RSMs aren't upgraded before they wear out the rear shock towers can tear. That and the cooling system are the main problem areas. Simple fixes and you're good to go. I look forward to every drive in my family sedan.

ah no.

225hp<250hp, a tighter, lighter chassis, LSD, better suspension, and the rarity of a two year production.

M3>ZHP in both E46 and E36

i would, but have you seen the prices

im really really thinking into getting the m3 sedan, just worried about some problems
with our body shop closed down, money is super tight (damn :[ )
i want a nice sports sedan for not to much (which is almost like asking for trouble)
i was looking at Audi S4s but the Biturbo 6 on a tight budget is probably not a smart idea.

not really sure what im going to do, things have changed. and i almost NEED a 4 dour sedan.

Err, kinda as the doneffect said, the 325 example was just provided as evidence that the brand depreciates rather quickly because of relatively high maintenance costs. Sure m3 is kind of an exception, due to its rarity and whatnot, but it is what it is.
Again, you make somewhat of a point and reference validation that does not exist. Please show me proof that BMW's depreciate quickly because of high maintenance costs...oh wait, you can't because that's not accurate. Your chart from 2001 show's very little...do they factor in purchase price?? I think most people assume that BMW's, MB's and the sort cost more to maintain but that has zero impact on how reliable they are. I can buy a used S2000 all day long for under $10K...does that mean it has high maintenance costs? If you buy an M3 and think that it would be a similar cost of ownership as an Accord then you're either retarded or just really out of touch. On another note...gorgeous E36's, I'm trolling auto trader as we speak for a clean 98-99 vert.

Hey man . I generally lay low and don't talk about what I drive on this forum. I don't want to be judged by my car. Figured I'd make an exception for this thread.

In my humble opinion, the M3 costs too much to maintain to justify its performance in this day and age.

Considering the cheaper C5 and C6's out there. Although if you do need the backseats....

and with the newer 370z's equaling or bettering the performance as well as 135's

again I like total package of the M3 E46 and I would want one, but if I had a little bit more money to spend I would look elsewhere.
Unless you get extended warranty on a CPO that includes scheduled services.

I think someone on this forum mentioned that BMW is doing that.
