TRACK DAY TIPS
I've been thinking about going to a track day, but I'm not sure what to expect. I would like to hear about your first time experiences at the track. Was it too fast or just fun? How much riding experience did u have before? And, what kind of riding had you done before the track, just the streets or canyons? Any recomendations would be great.
call the track, find out what is needed for the bike:
-tape head light etc
-remove mirrors (good idea anyways)
-time and cost
-you have a bike, ask about the track surface
-who will be out there with you
get your gear together:
full leathers, race boots &gloves, helmet.... back protector?
-the bike will burn 2X gas so bring some or top off just outside the track
-bring water for yourself back pack etc
-safety ck the bike, chain, brakes, tire preaure
-bring a tire preasure gage to the track
pick a time where there will not be alot of stuff on the track, you will not be the fastest one there but best to ignor them, they will go around you. it is not a race, just test and tune. dont pull out onto the track into a immediatly agressive situation, pick your best time, wait at the pre grid a few seconds. 5-10 laps is a long time, break between.
-warm up the bike tires, go 1-2 laps to do this.
-remove the mirrors, ignor the other riders, concentrate on your riding, they should go around you.
-at first keep it in 2nd gear and become familliar with the track. familliar is able to play back the whole track in your head after wards.
-concentrate on picking a line into a curve, etc
my first time at the track i crashed twice, my friend (experienced rider) had alot of fun with this till he crashed because his tires were not warm. there are a few books that help, not the best one maybe but try "twist of the wrist 2" the track is fun like sex.

Well pretty much everything that was mentioned above was good. My first track day was great a lot of fun. i was only 16 so i had to do a lot with my brain with people going faster then me(had the idea i should be beating them) thankfuly i calmed myself and just had fun with it. i have ever crashed knock on wood. i also bring extra fluids to track days, oil, brakes, gas and lots of drinks for me. one thing i did was buy pretty much all the sliders you can buy, frame, bar end, clutch, and swing arm sliders. that way if i ever did drop a bike i would hopfully not damage anything. I also did what i call a graduation on tires. i started with just normal stock tires. they were a med comp i got used to they till i could push them to the max, then i moved to a soft street compound till i could also do what i did before. now i do full race tires and am having a lot of fun with them. of course this wasn't over one track day. as regards to what kind of prior training i had before my track day, it was just street riding, there are nor canyons here in SoFlo.
