Type-R???
While i know German cars like the back of my hand, outside of the S2000 and 350Z, i know pretty much nothing about most Japanese cars. Can someone explain to me exactly WHAT THE HELL IS A TYPE-R? and why does every single japanese car company seem to make a Type-R version of everything?!?! I see Soooo many 'ricers' with a Type-R badge on the back of their cars, i have no idea which company even makes the Type-R. Im assuming the REAL type-r's are just nicer, sportier versions of those cars. But i see so many Hondas, Toyotas, Mitsubishis, Nissans, and Acuras with this badge on the back, i dont know what to think!

Type R designations are used on Honda cars...like the Integra Type R, Accord Type R, Civic Type R, etc. We don't get many of these in the USA, but they're available in Europe and Asia.
Other car companies also use a R designation from time to time, i.e. Nissan Skyline GT-R, but I don't think any of them use the phrase Type R.

It's a Honda/Acura thing. Though in the U.S., the only Type R you get is the Integra Type R (frequently abbreviated ITR).
It's essentially, as you said, a sportier version of the car (not necessarily nicer though, if by nicer you mean more comfortable), the ITR has a more powerful engine (195hp vs 140/170), stiffer suspension, stickier tires and a stiffer and lighter chassis (by omiting the sun roof and adding stock strut tower bars).
Why do you ask? Did an Amish Horse Buggy Type-R try to race you?

well my friend just got an Integra Type-R that he went out to get in Cali last week. And i was just wondering, cause i know ive seen a shitload of non Hondas/Acuras with that badging

Yea as peacelove said, it's the performance version of the model. "R" I assume stands for Race. It's not just a "sporty" trim but a performance trim that involves a high performance engine and sporty suspension. Si usually means "sporty". It's like the "M" trim on a BMW or "AMG" on a Benz.
I guess there are still people out there that know nothing about cars.....
