V8 Powered S2000
Had I lived somewhere else, I might still be happily driving my 08 S2000 despite its bare bones nature. But here in southern CT, the SLK55 suits me much better and it really is superior to the S2000 in every way excluding purely subjective things like looks, the eternal auto/manual debate, and fuel economy. I've owned both. The S2000 is great short term fun. The SLK55 is a better all around long term car. IMHO of course. For JonBoy the lack of a Honda badge removes any other car from consideration.
An S2000 isn't defined by its length, width and height - and dimensional similarity to a hardtop convertible doesn't imply any other kind of similarity.
And here we have the forum's legendary Honda fanboi misquoting weights on both vehicles to hang onto the delusion that the S2000 is somehow "special". It isn't particularly. I'm finding that out as time goes on. So we get it too. You love everything Honda. It's impossible for you to be objective where the S2000 is concerned. And you have the maturity of a 12 year old. Be happy with your 13 year old AP1.
Secondly, since us S2000 drivers are so hardcore and care so much about light weight, we drive around with less than a 1/2 tank of gas at all times. That takes us from 2835 lbs down to 2785 lbs curb weight.

Plenty of people on here have weighed their S2000s (stock) and had them under 2800 lbs with less than a full tank of gas. REGARDLESS, I'm off by supposedly 36 lbs. You're off by 556 lbs when it comes to our standard of being lightweight. I think you're still talking to the wrong crowd and barking up the wrong tree.
Thirdly, I said ROUGHLY 3500 lbs for your car. I was adding in the obviously very large chip on your shoulder as part of the car's weight.

You clearly value having pointless crap that just weighs down the car more than a focus on handling and balance, why did you even buy an S2K in the first place?
I mean seriously , you bought a Crossfire. Should have spent the money on cataract surgery instead.
And the S2K IS sub 2800lb, go do some research you pillock.

Edmunds website shows the initial year of production, 2000 AP1 at 2,809 lbs. Last I checked you pillock, 2,809 > 2,800. Do much research on the car you supposedly own, pillock? Maybe gravity is lower in the southern hemishere.

I just have to laugh at this point. Honda makes a sub-2800 lb 240 hp convertible, something no one else has done in forever, and now it's "heavy" and I'm a fanboi for pointing out how light the AP1 really is. Yet, somehow, a porky ~3500 lb convertible is worthy of mention.
Here we have a guy that raves about every car he owns, including the amazing Crossfire (aka, Crapping Dog or Frog, I'm not sure which) and we're supposed to just adore his every vehicle. Buys a V8 convertible that weighs more than a Honda Accord and it's now "an S2000 with a V8".

We get it - you like your cars. Just don't try and pretend they're an S2000 (for better, or worse). Your SLK isn't an S2000. It isn't a V8 S2000. It isn't the muscular S2000. It isn't the Mercedes S2000. It's a GT convertible with a big engine that has a lot of amenities and features. That's good, even great, depending on what you like. It just isn't an S2000, it doesn't relate in any real or direct way to an S2000 (with an I4 or a V8) and that's just the way it is.

The SLK AMG is a nice car but its no S2000. The automatic transmission alone drops it from contention in my book. If you want to go uplevel from an S, most people here would tell you to pick up a Boxster, not a Mercedes.

True, and I dearly love the Boxster except for maybe the looks. And they are reliable as hell. Better cargo room. To me, the absolute best roadster on the market in "S" form from a performance standpoint. And they are in the same price range as the SLK55. But.....still a noisy soft top that wears out. And much as I love a manual transmission, I have learned that it's just not enjoyable (for me) where I live. And the PDK gearbox is basically = the AMG 7G-Tronic for me. Don't knock it until you've actually driven one. Not the same as the regular Mercedes 7G-Tronic. AMG has reworked the hardware and the programming. I have the regular 7G-Tronic in my R500 for comparison. Very different transmissions. Also, it seems hard to find a Boxster S with PDK and low miles plus loaded with options. Don't know if they didn't make that many or people are holding onto them.
Not trying to pick fights with the resident Honda fanbois. Just contrasting two cars that I've owned in the Car Talk section. The similarities in physical dimensions and overall feel were surprising to me, that's all. The differences were obvious and no surprise at all. And I'm willing to bet that unlike me the S2000 fanbois have never even been in an SLK55 let alone driven one for any extended period. So, JonBoy's opinions are completely anticipated and duly discounted.

From Wikipedia..........
Hydrology
Relief map showing major rivers and lakes
Because much of Australia's interior is arid, the low average annual rainfall means interior rivers are often dry and lakes empty. The headwaters of some waterways are located in tropical regions where summer rains create a high rate of discharge. Flood events drastically alter the dry environment in which the ecology of central Australia has had to adapt to the boom and bust cycle.
The Great Artesian Basin is an important source of water, the world's largest and deepest fresh water basin. Access to water from the basin has led to the expansion of grazing into areas that were previously far too dry for livestock. Towns and cities across the country sometimes face major water storage and usage crisis in which restrictions and other measures are implemented to reduce water consumption. Water restrictions are based on a gradient of activities that become progressively banned as the situation worsens.
Wiki also quotes the country as being 18% desert. That's 1 in every 5 square miles. Not arid, desert. Sure you didn't decide to site Melbourne, Brisbane, Sydney, and Adelaide in the desert. The coast is livable. That's where the population centers grew. And where they suck up the water supply of an overall arid land mass.
And sorry that I don't keep up with the Aussie / English slang. Both nations are irrelevant on the world stage today. Just anachronisms of a dead empire. We chose to leave that legacy behind when we booted the English out of our country. You chose to become their penile colony. Your colloquialisms aren't really of much importance to us.
Better cargo room.
Spudracer just stop now before you ruin any credibility you thought you had on this forum. You are digging your own grave by being a pompous and condescending asshole. We get it, you like you SLK.
End of story.
Someone close this thread this is retarded.

Said the guy with the feminine blue 11 year old Honda hairdresser's car. Seriously, I've always wondered who buys Suzuka Blue S2000's. Now I know, cocksuckers like you.
