IIRC, the S2000 is structurally stiffer than the open topped NSX.

I don't have any measurements to prove this statement or disprove this statement but...

My personal experience (from my highly regarded butt-o-meter) is that the S2K (with the X brace) is about the same as the NSX with the roof panel removed. With the roof panel in, the NSX is stiffer.

Add the NSX-R chassis bars and the NSX stiffens up considerably.

BTW - not to nitpick but truth be told, none of the NA2 (or NA1) NSX's were "targas" as Targa is a Porsche trademark or copyright (I never can remember the difference). Technically they were "t"s .

Going back to the original question, no not all NA2's are targa. The NA2 engine was available in U.S. on the 1997 NSX models. Most of the NSXs made after that time were targas though. The fixed roof coupe although lighter, stiffer and faster was offered less and less after that model year. Not sure why Acura set it up that way since the non-targa was the better performing version.

Good question. The targa is inherently less stiff and rigid than the coupe. From a physics standpoint it is like comparing a sealed box that is made of one piece of material -- as opposed to a box that has had one side (the top) cut off and, replaced back on as a lid. You can probably find a better explanation at nsxprime.com website though.

I do know that coupes that are later converted to targas usually have some stiffening or added bracing put in. But like I said, technically it won't have the maximum rigity as a car frame that is made more from "one piece".
Are you interested in buying an NSX? Let us know how it goes if you do

Nope. If you want ultimate stiffness then try looking for a Zanardi. Try being the key word. If you want stiffness and much lower weight then go for a NA1. NA1 with I/H/E will have similar RWHP as a NA2. However, the 5 spd is going to be slower than the 6 spd.

oddly enough there is at least one relatively new NSX that has been transformed into a coupe... i think it was on the nsx board.... a guy in florida i think... he made his own white "type r"... probably cost about a zillion $, but that is what makes the economy run....
