Default What car is both fuel efficient and quick?

I was looking into getting an alternate car to my S2000. My daily driver (a faithful sentra) is starting to show its sign of age. Thus, I need to start looking for a good handling, quick but fuel efficient car. I've thought of the 1999 Civic Si but need more feedback from Y'all.

My suggestion: Acura RSX (base model has same engine as 2002+ Civic SI). If you're looking for more fuel economy than quickness, go with the base manual (160 hp; 27 city/33 highway). More quickness than fuel economy, go with the Type-S (200 hp; 24 city/31 highway). I don't have much stop and go traffic here and commute 7 miles to work, but in my Type-S I typically get 28 city and 33 highway while Vteccing it at least 3 times a day. Most people get a little less, but the manufacturer's estimates are pretty good. Used base RSXs can be had for less than $13,000 with low (<40,000) miles.

Z06 gets 29mpg on hwy tho i would never own one...

is this good gas mileage for city or hwy? how much $$$? my wifes 03 civic si is fun and good on gas.

i'd say best combo for city/hwy gas mileage and performance is rsx s.

Accord V6 sedan. It becomes more useful an RSX as you can haul more people / stuff when needs be. Unfortuantely you can't get it in a manual. You'd have to go to a TSX for that.

I'm currently getting upwards of 35mpg in my 11 year old Accord sedan. A friend of mine barely breaks 14mpg in her 3 year old Explorer.

My Z06 city mileage sucks, too much right foot. If I had a long highway commute then 28-29 is right.

I'm thinking one of the Civics or Mazda 3's is a nice balance. How bad is the HX on acceleration?

It becomes more useful an RSX
except for the hatchback flexibility

Since you already own a sentra why not stick with it? 03 Sentra SE-R Spec-V 175hp, 180lbs/ft of torque. The torque will make it feel a lot faster than it is. And I average about 30mpg in mine. I picked one up for 13k with only 10k miles on it. It handles really feel too for what it is.
