What handles and performs better?

Umm. Here are my thoughts. The Mustang GT doesnt have independent rear suspension, the M3 does. M3's and sports suspensioned bmw's are known for their handling, mustang's are not. However, i'm not going to sit here and proclaim the m3 as the diety-like vehichle that everyone makes it out to be (even though I really think it is). Its all up to what you're looking for. As for as modding potential goes, the Mustang has gobs more potential than the m3, just because anything domestic has crazy mod potential as far as the straight line is concerned. However, I dont think the GT has that same "special" feeling as the M3 does. Even though alot of "snoot-heads" drive M3s, they're very respectable, formidable vehichles with numbers to back it up. Pound for pound, the m3 is probably a superior vehichle in every category, but if you're planning to mod, or are more straight line all american muscle than grand touring canyon cutter, than the mustang is an excellent option. I'd give the knod to the M3, but then the Mustang close behind (definitely ahead of the other options in that size, i.e. 350z)

towards the end there, I feel like people started comparing the coupes...
I understand (very well) that the 02+ m3 coupe is a better performer than the 05 stang gt coupe (it is fairly obvious); however I'm only interested in the convertibles
don't forget that in order to be a convertible, the m3 added 400lb (yes, 400), and the stang added about 150
final dry weight for the verts: stang - 3673lb, m3 - 3838...
let the flaming begin
