What's more fun (on back roads)...
This was suggested in another thread.
(For example) a C6 Z06 with power/weight of ~6 lbs/hp vs a NSX with 10 lbs/hp.
In the Z06 might you not feel that you can't use most of it's potential. You can drive 60% and "feel" the same acceleration as a NSX at full boil. But you may feel as if you're just goofing. As if you are nowhere near the limit. And some people think the fun is at the limit.

I say slow cars. "Too fast" cars are a handful, which becomes distracting at times. "Just a bit quick" cars are exciting at the limit. "Slow" cars are fun to try and make them go fast. Kinda like going cart racing...... your having a blast and only doing 25mph!

I'm done with slow cars (for fun). I had a Z3 1.9L and it was so sloooow. I guess it was a bit fun on back roads. But acceleration got on my nerves. It was as if you had a S2000 with a 5000 rpm redline
Now the S2000 (I think) is very fun, not too quick that will soil your shorts and probably not as likely to land you in jail. But it's still considered quick. I mean it's quicker than most (all ?) fwd cars on the road, it's quicker than most sports sedans and most trucks and SUVs etc..
I have driven two cars I consider very fast a C5 Z06 and 996 turbo. They were no doubt a blast to drive. But def had work at keeping the speed down. In the back of my mind I was like "if a cop sees this will I get a ticket or get arrested?"
I didn't drive the Z06 on much of a back road circuit, but the 911 turbo I did. I drove it on the same fun roads I am used to driving my S2000. And it didn't seem (to me) that the turbo was as much fun on the back roads.
It may be that I was driving the turbo with extra care since I was not used to the rate of acceleration it can dish out. Maybe with time I'd feel different. It's hard to say.
I have driven a M3 and a M5 and both didn't seem as much fun as the S2000. I think it was the 500 lbs - 1000 lbs extra weight those cars have on. And maybe a car like a Z06 with just 200 extra lbs would be more fun to toss around.

I voted for the 'just quick' cars. I have never owned anything super fast, and I don't think I want to. I have a hard enough time obeying the traffic laws when I am behind the wheel of my S....I think I would end up in some serious trouble with anything faster.
And I have owned two slow Hondas. An Accord (1997), that I spent the money to make it look good. I had an Integra that was 2 seconds quicker in the quarter-mile and looked good....but that need for speed always pushes me. I would rather have something along the lines of the S2000 that has some go from the factory. I put money into two cars that were still not very credible on the street, but were nice to cruise in. The S2000 is the best of both worlds, with out being fast enough to push me into jail time.

Let's set some "for what?" criteria. For commuting in traffic? For driving on the interstate? For cruising to the beach? For a race track? For a windy back road? For putting in your "What I own" sig on the internet?
I suggest that we make this about a windy back road, but I'll answer the poll based on whatever criteria you decide.

I'm sure the faster the better when you want acceleration, but this poll is about un-winding a nice road. Are the limits of a Z06 too high to get close to in the real world?
I've driven a few slow cars which were great fun to drive (NB Miata) and a few super fast cars which were not as fun to drive (an older Porsche). But there are also super fast cars which were a load of fun (Ferrari 360), and some slow ones which were just not fun at all (MGTF).
Depends a bit on the car really, but I think overall, I do like that "head snaps back" feeling. But to each their kicks.

OK, Drag - race - ect... "Too Fast"
Winding back road... "Just a bit quick"
Commuting, darting through traffic, navigating parking lots.. Slow (just because the slower miata sized are much easier to point and shoot plus it doesnt matter which direction you go into a parkinglot

Since I started going to the track, I have to say that windy back roads have absolutely no appeal to me anymore. Too many variables, too many imperfections in the road, and too much chance for disasterous outcomes. Ever driving at 80% on a back road is just asking for trouble.
So for me, I'll take the "Super fast" car because I'm gonna be driving the same speed regardless. At least the Carerra GT will look nicer doing it than a Miata.
