Do you think people with normal cars like sedans, suv, and other drive the same or better. Or do you think the people with sport cars drive better. As in a whole who do you believe drive better. I see people in camry get into stupid accident but never really a person in a sport car. Well, maybe except when it a street race. Just wondering

That's a tough question.

Performance vehicles encourage precision driving, and that leads to safer driving.

Performance vehicles also encourage stupid driving, and we know what that leads to.

I personally think that it nets out in the end.

There are a whole lot of folks who drive SUV's and pickups who are amateur racers. The SUV is the tow/daily driver vehicle - so you never know with them. On the other hand, it's only a small amount of sports/hi po car drivers who actually know how to 'use' them. The average sports car driver bought it to look cool or drive fast (which doesn't necessarily mean drive well). The reason you see more mundane cars in wrecks - there are a whole lot more of them on the road. Read the various forums and see how many vette/m3/s2k/etc owners are spinning and wrecking.

Of course it's never their fault.

I agree with vroom.

I think that particularly the American automotive culture buys sports cars for image. of all the true sports cars out there on American roads.....only a few of them are purchased because the owners are, more than likely, true driving enthusiast.

Disclaimer:
(in my opinion, if you only drive your car as a means to go from A to B and not to enjoy it's mechanical and physical, and chemical properties, you are not a driving enthusiast)

I'd guess over on the other side of the Atlantic, you'd find a much much larger numbers of people who drive low or high powered sports cars/sports sedans the way they were meant to.

this is one of the things I don't like about this country. They value different qualities in cars. (prestige and straight line speed being the most important as I can tell)

an example happened a week ago:

I'm behind a Boxster S with a single ocupant driving. he's chuggin along topless in a straight line at a very nice clip.. we come up on a series of switchbacks that I absolutely love and finally I get to play with someone on them----- and he slows down way too much. . I pull over at the entrance to the curves and give him 3 minutes to get through them........I proceed at the usual 2 times the posted limit and catch him as he's exiting the curves still put-putting along. I tail him until he pulls over to refuel....

I ask him....."why did you slow down so much at the chicanes back there? I've always wanted someone to play with on this road."

He replies: because the road is too curvy to go through fast......why did you pull over?

Me: to let you go so i could enjoy the curves. Since it's not safe to go around....I'd let you go....to get the road to myself.

Him: how fast were you going....you caught up with me.

Me: 85.

Him: there is no way my car can do that on that road.

Me: do you know what R-Compound tires are? that's what I'm driving on.

Him: No.

Me: when you find out, at that point you'll understand. You have a good day.

I feel that more than likely, this is the kind of person you'll encounter on the road in a sports car in America.

Actually in general, the opposite is probably true. The S2000 is trickier to drive than most comparable cars due to its balance and its lack of traction or stability assist which would make people in Z4s and Boxsters feel like Andretti even though their driving skills may be ugly and horrible. The S2000 forces you to improve your driving skills.
