Default Why does my friend's car bog?

My friend with a GSR bogs and can't reach redline the car would bog 4.5k when he floors it. But if he let of the gas and put it into 5th and dump it back to 3rd his car might be able to reach redline. He has multiple problems with his car though something is wrong with his throttle body, it look like he running rich, his car burn way to much oil, and some wiring problem. Just wondering what wrong with his car without the most obvious about buying a new car or changing the motor.

Is there a check engine light? What do you mean by bog? Does it feel like a rev-limiter (fuel cutoff), or does the engine sound like it has to try reallly hard?

You might be better to tell us what's NOT wrong with it. It sounds like the thing has so many issues that any one of them would be the reason why it doesn't do anything right.

ps. Not S2000 related. Moving to Car Talk.

Ah, that's the name of the forum I wanted to move it to.

Most likely, the issue is he won't take it to a reputable Acura dealer for repair. While I respect the knowledge of some of the members of this forum, I doubt their ability when compared to that of a trained automotive technician, coupled with the appropriate tools and diagnostic equipment. IMHO

I could think of a lot of things. My first two impressions are, if it will NEVER get to redline, he pulled the plugs and put them back on in the wrong order. If it feels like it wants to die, and has trouble under hard revving, he could have a airbox cover that has come off and he keeps losing his seal since it's more or less resting on the air filter. It could be this or some other intake leak, but this is the most likely.

Thoughts folks?

Ask him what he's done lately, because that plug wire thing can definitely do exactly what you're talking about.

He has new NGK wires; Denso Plugs, AEM CAI, HKS Filter, exhaust, and his ECU chip before from the previous owner (I think the car leaning out because of this). The car would I presume get a fuel cut off the car doesn't want to progress any farther under hard accelerations. Originally he thought it would be because of the oil pressure because the car would quit on him when his oil goes low. His car burns an extreme amount of oil in correlation about 1qt for every 1k miles he goes. But now after oil change so he must have at least 5qt in the motor and his car would still reach some type of rev limiter. He thinks maybe his oil pump is not working. But I know there must be something significantly wrong with the motor entirely but just wondering what happening now.

"UTH" on this site is S2000 specific and thus didn't belong there. If you want it to appear in UTH, post it in the GSR forum.

Thanks for the vote of confidence but I shall not hide the fact that I am NOT a "trained automotive technician".
