Default why fast and quiet?

was reading a review of the rs6 and the writer was saying how great it is that it's smooth and fast.

why!

i once drove a bentley GT over 100 mph and it felt like i was going less than 50. why is that desirable. it's like saying, take a hot girl and dress her so she appears nerdy.

I'd love to do freeway speed and not have to raise my voice to talk to my passenger. Why wouldn't someone want a luxurious car, where the owner can ride in comfort until he reaches his destination? Not everyone's into loud rumbly cars.

Part of the desire is safety. If the car feels twitchy at high speed it probably is not as safe at that speed.

There is a separate appeal for feeling that a car is tearing itself apart, that you're wringing out every little bit it has. Let me recommend a mid-70's VW for you. I had one and, yes, it would reach the 84 MPH top speed indicated in the manual -- if you had 3 flat miles and a tail wind. And when you get there your heart will be beating fast and you'll feel lucky to have survived.

this thread is lame.

-because not everyone wants to be driving around a top fuel dragster all the time?

-Because if you want to be able to talk to someone or drive your family or business associates around, but still be able to pass someone on the freeway, your options are limited?

i'm all for loud cars, but man maybe it's because i'm growing older/maturing but after driving the 335i/135i/e63/b7rs4...being quiet but still fast is a great thing to live with on a daily basis.

of course occasionally when i feel like rippin' it up i want my exhaust note heard...for M cars there's the M buttons, and for vette there's opening the butterfly valves..

i put the stock muffler back on my subaru even though i'm stage 2, because most often than not i prefer having a quiet ride, esp. when i'm taking passengers of the opposite gender.
