Default Z06 in MT

Just got MT its got a lot of info on the Z06. And a lot of pics !!! You have to see it.

Well I guess my biggest gipe has been fixed (yea!) the steering wheel is NOT the same one from the trailblazer. It's a 3 spoke affair that may look like one in a Miata (?) not the best but looks a lot better and it's 0.8" smaller that the old platter size wheel.

OK it's got the weight as 3150 lbs for a power to weight of 6.3 lb/hp

Here are some other p/w ratios:

Viper 6.8
575M 7.6
Ford GT 6.3
SLR 6.3
SL65 7.5
Carrera GT 5.4
Enzo 5.0
Salleen S7 5.0

Only the Saleen S7 weighs less than the Z06

they list things that are heavier in the Z v the C6 coupe:

Brakes +27 lbs
oil cooler/dry sump + 23 lbs
differential and cooling circuit + 11
Exhaust + 11
larger wheels + run-crap tires + 6

Things that make it lighter:

Aluminum structure -137 lbs
reduced content -33 lbs
Magnesium engine cradle - 12 lbs
non-removable roof -6.6 lbs

put it all together and the Z06 will weigh around 100 lbs less than the C6 coupe.

Forgot the best part (or worst part) The price is $75K-85K according to MT

IMO the price is OK b/c it'll be a little more exclusive than it was at $52-55K and so there won't be 8000/year. But there will be a bunch of plane C6s with hood and badges to show-off their "hot ride".

It'll be hard to duplicate the Z06 with it's flared fenders, different brakes/wheels/tires, etc. People may add the hood and badges, but it'll be picked out as a "poseur" by even a mildly talented enthusiast.

Hmm... I hope this doesn't go the way of the ZR-1, which had significantly better performance than its C4 contemporaries, but still sold in pretty small numbers anyway because it looked too much like its lesser brothers.

The average person on the street isn't going to be able to tell the difference between a Z06 and a normal C6, which I think will make a lot of people reluctant to shell out the extra $20k-$30k, regardless of how fast it goes.

i agree....only the HARD CORE track folks (or those with $$$$$) will pony up that much more money for a Z06....the C6 is very much capable for $40K

Or even $75K.

Eep!

I know it's still a bargain, but the reason I love the Z06 because it's "affordable."

I guess it's all relative.

At ~$80K, it's in the territory of Viper and 997 S already. Even though it has stellar performance, it's tough to pay that much for a Z06 when a beautiful Viper or 997 S could be had.
