I've heard lots of issues with the GM high-perf turbo motors (LF3 in CTS V-Sport and XTS V-Sport, as well as the LF4 in the ATS-V), but not with the 2.0T or the 3.6L NA engine. I took a CTS V-Sport for a drive and really liked it but the big turbo engine reliability issues turned me off (including your fiasco with your ATS-V, which is supposedly a better engine). A friend of mine has the XTS V-Sport with the LF3 and had big issues with his turbos (bone stock). It's been a real headache for him - he regrets the decision to buy constantly, he says.

However, the 3.6L (LFX and LGX) is supposed to be pretty good as well, based on the anecdotes/research I've heard/done. The old 3.6L had timing chain issues and potential oil consumption problems but the new ones seem to have eliminated that.

I'd love to get a Chevy SS! They didn't sell them in Canada, though.

I don’t know much about the 3.6 but I want to say the 2.0t had a bunch of issues as well, also the cue and various electrical issues seem to be the norm now. With that being said I agree any of the ls engines I think will be most reliable and probably a lot of fun! WIth that being said everytime I see a Atsv for sale or pictures I really want one again!

I never considered the 2.0T so I didn't really dig into it.

I love the looks of the ATS and CTS. I'd love either one as a -V but I can't afford a CTS-V and I don't want the turbo'd ATS-V. Local guy has an ATS-V for $47K CAD (about $35K USD) with about 30K kms and he still can't find a seller. A CTS-V, used, is about $70K here...

When the Atsv start getting around that $30k mark then I think it would be worth it. Honestly that would be a lot of car for that price and if it has an extended warranty then even better. A 3rd gen ctsv would be my ideal daily but they need to come down on prices as you say

With the supra's release today at 50-55K vs the z4 at 65K but with same drivetrain, does that change the math on this at all? The supra will come with a little less hp and about 50lbs less weight but I'm sure reflashes will be offered everywhere soon that turn it into a beast with a very cheap, easy mod. Supra looks to be about the same weight as a C7 with z51 (just under 3400lbs), the z4 a little under 3450. I can only imagine if Toyota makes a lot of them, in three years you could probably steal one for 35-40K.

When you say it like that, I would just opt for a C7.

Performance on paper aside and the fact the Supra has no manual, I will wait to fully judge the appearance of the car, but my initial impression is disappointment for such a iconic car that has really weathered well in time, with its classic and clean gt racing style lines. Right now the face of the car is not sitting too well with me. Elegant is not the first thing that comes ot mind, and I think they really could have taken some cues form the last gen RX7 to refine the sex appealing lines of the car. I get far more excitement looking at my 20 year old custom S2k. I'm starting to figure out that new cars styling these days (with all but a couple exceptions) pretty much aren't cutting it. I don't know if its the new generation/blood of styling engineers, or modern EPA standards or a combination of the both, but its disappointing on one sense, and in another just makes me and others I run into on the street appreciate my S2k even more. Its amazing how many people still don't know what it is, if its new/old, what kind of car etc. Real tribute to the design.

BMW M2 over the Z4 or new Supra. On every level.

Hmm the pricing makes sense, I think it looks good. But no manual makes me take pause. They should've just given it a different name, the RCF has more supra ethos than this car.
