I would be interested in the IS500 when I eventually get my wife's IS300 after she gets a new SUV. However, the price needs to be right and it needs some 'soul.' I hope Toyota can deliver.

Every time the Lexus IS comes up people talk about how it will top the competition. Every time it fails.
Modern Toyotas are possibly the most soulless vehicles of all time.

"Modern Toyotas *were* possibly the most soulless vehicles of all time."

Wow, this went Toyota fanboi fast.
Uh, I (and I would wager others) don't need you to post pics of the Yotas you're defending to know what you're talking about. If ImportSport doesn't want a Supra in his garage, he doesn't want one in his garage. Am I supposed to like the Supra because you say so?
You're only proving the point that Toyota *USED* to make cars people wanted by listing all the *PAST* Yotas you like. Good lord you're going back to the AE86, a car that was heretofore a dull DD until drifting got big. There's no way you can tell me it was the mini-Supra of its day back in the 80s, when it was a humble econobox off the showroom floor. Toyota's cars currently do not inspire anyone beyond the simple equation that goes:
reliable car + well-made = decent daily driver
Would I like a 400=hp Supra? I suppose, but there's a lot of cars I'd take if given such an option. In fact, you could substitute about 20-50 different cars in place of "Supra" and I'd still take them, 400hp or less. You list all the people hunting down and paying stupid money for old beat-up Supras as your defense? LOL! The market for old Ferraris would be huge too if they didn't cost so damn much. This is a non-argument if ever there was one.
As for the "Supra replacement", it's as much vaporware as any other concept car ever has been.
Toyota can deliver, they just do it differently than other companies. They deliver reliability and nice, bland cars. It's still performance, but by a different name.

It's hard for Toyota to think outside the box. They do what they do very well, but that involves reliable, quality appliances. It's going to take a while for Toyota to shake that corporate mindset.
The IS350 is a NICE ride, but sheesh it has the SAME motor at the Toyota Avalon, Camry, and many other plebian cars.

I'm prompted to agree with this statement. They are comfortable, friendly, reliable and cater to 95% of their target demo. At the end of the day Toyota has never put out a "drivers" car that I would want to see in my garage.
As for the IS500, that would be an incredible car for Lexus to have in its lineup. And along with the LS600h (hybrid), Lexus will certainly have the world-class status, combined with the reliability status it currently has. I wish I'll be able to afford the LS600h by then. Hopefully, my stocks will help me out.

[QUOTE=Purple_sky,Jul 25 2006, 12:03 PM] Please don't say "has never" because that would include the past, which Toyota certainly has put out some exciting cars--as mentioned, the Supra, MR2, AE86 (or something like that back in the '80's), S2000 (or something like that back in the '70's) , etc.
As for the IS500, that would be an incredible car for Lexus to have in its lineup.
