They say the make the Corvette and that it gets 28 mpg. That's true (if you keep your foot out of it) but it's also a much lighter car. There is no way the Camaro won't be at least 300 lbs heavier - probably more like 500 or 600 lbs, and less aerodynamic (check out its shape). They will be lucky to get 25 mpg highway, which isn't even remotely "good"... They get that out of minivans and medium sized SUVs these days.

[QUOTE=Dr. WOT,Aug 11 2006, 08:09 AM] It will prolly have some sort of variable displacement tech, which is fine except if you actually use the throttle.

Where in the world are you guys getting this 4,000lbs crap? It's going to be built on the Zeta platform (I believe). The last gen Camaro weighed 3,500lbs. This one shouldn't be much/if any heavier with a 400hp LS2 and a big overdrive gear, it'll get great gas mileage (relatively speaking).
Of course, why would you buy a 400hp Camaro and want to get good gas mileage? I'd be doing burnouts down the street.

My 2002 SS Camaro used to get 26mpg in normal commuting when I had one. Not bad for 345 horses. 6th gear lopes you around 1500rpm at 65mph. So are you laughing now JonBoy? Fact is, 6speed LS1s got great mileage.
Fact 2: 26 mpg in ANY sports car during commuting is an anomaly, not the norm. Most people are lucky to get it in a 4-cyl Accord if they have a lot of stop and go traffic.
I'm not disagreeing that it can't get good mileage. I'm disagreeing that it will generally get good mileage. Just like a Vette. Just like an S2000. Just like any sports/sporty car. Even a Miata isn't stellar on gas...
So yes, I'm still laughing.

Let the markups begin!!!
Every one I visited (to see the Solstice) pretty much chased me away with a stick.
One artical suggested the Camaro might get 28mpg. That's not too terrible, and certainly no worse than most vehicles on the road. There is some new technology (idling half of the cylinders while cruising, for example) that should make that sort of mediocre mileage possible.

...Also a shame that there will be a v6 to water down the image...
100k / year sounds optimistic, there is only so much market to go around...
Still, I think it is the best design of the batch.

We have a 2005 Honda Odyssey which now has 30k miles on it and is our daily driver. Here in the mountains we average 22-23 combined with mountain highway at 25 when we drive to Atlanta where its flat we get 28.
My S2k gets 23 combined and 26 on the mountain highways.I get 27 driving to Atlanta.
My C6 got 16-17 combined and 24 mountain highway but as much as 28 driving to Atlanta with the cruise set at 75.For the power my C6 had ( modded to 390 rwhp) and the way I drove it I think it got amazing gas milage but as I've said before you'll pay for HP even at its highest efficiency.
