Is it weird that I... sorta, kinda like this thing? If the powertrain and everything is the same, I'd rather have this than the boring GTi...

Hmmm. Looks a bit off. The long hood looks a bit to conventional or as if it were one of those aftermarket hoods for the original Beetle. The lower roofline makes the car less distinctive but the original was quite tall which hurt mileage. Basically this car is suffereing from the same issue as most retro cars, it's evolving away from retro and into state of the art (ie generic modern with all the benefits and flaws). The interior looks far more functional but it doesn't look memorable. The exterior is more aero-dynamic but rather forgettable. OK, so you went retro and we loved it but how do you update retro? The PT Cruise updated it by dying. Pity because it was a good car when new. The MINI is going strange. The Mustang seems to be doing an OK job but we have yet to see it get away from the 2005 retro look. The 911 seems to have pulled... oh wait... it never changed.

I think its a nice evolution, but the interior is really disappointing, I mean I like it, but that's the problem, I like plain well hought out well executed interiors, and this aside from the seats covers most of that. The beetle should have an interior to remind you that ur driving a beetle, just like the mini. But I like the exterior, I think it was a well executed efort in evolving a distinct oiginal.
Rockville, the pt imo looked horrible, I expected more out of the folks who brought me one of my fav designs ever, the prowler (why oh why didn't they put a friggin v8 in there?).

It looks more like the original beetle than the first retro version.

Really? I actually find the GTI to be extremely attractive. In fact, when I save up, which is going to take incredibly long I'll admit, I'd like to get a GTI as a second car. Well that is unless Alfa Romeo really comes back before then!

It has an Audi TT roofline, maybe that's what set it off a little. But truthfully, I'd not notice it as a new model at all, just a little different than the last one. It's kinda like an ugly girl with new clothes, who really cares?

Looks nice inside and out. Looks like a squished 911 but in a nice way.

I like it, and eagerly await the details on the R version.
