I strongly disagree!
My 1971 240Z with barely-modded suspension outhandled my stock S2000, erm, HANDILY It wasn't super-slow in a straight line either, with well-chosen engine mods. Many seconds/lap faster around both slower tracks (like NHMS) and faster tracks (like Watkins Glen) than my S2000...

Not all old cars had crap for basic suspension layout, and lots of older sports cars have a pretty big weight advantage relative to 2800-lb. S2000...

Ok... what about something like a '60s Mustang or an old MG roadster... those sound slow and crap handling ;D

Anyways.. back to the ND topic..

The ND1 has similar times as a stock S2k around certain tracks (Laguna Seca, etc.)... so, the ND2 should absolutely "slay" it now (as YTer's say nowadays).

Very impressive and minimal drivetrain loss. So awesome. Little thing should def rip. I really wanna test-drive one now.

What's funny is the GT86/FRS/BRZ is rated at 200hp and 151tq (@6500rpm); but, despite this, all the Dynojet tests out there of a bone-stock GT-86 is around 160-170whp and 130-135wtq.
About maybe the same whp as the new ND2, but with significantly less wtq and also at 6500rpm (ND2 peak torque is at 4000rpm).
And being around 500lbs lighter, the ND2 will definitely be much faster than the FRS/BRZ.

There's already tons of videos showing the earlier ND1 easily beating the FRS/BRZ in a straight line... but now, the new improvements in the ND2 will make that gap even wider. Haha.

Not to mention the 86's torque dip.

I can’t stand the body roll. Yes it can be fixed, but personally I also need to modify the rest of the suspension for just a tad more stiffness in general. Not much, just a tad.

The rolls is a defining characteristic and it may lead itself to be one additional reason why people say the car is very communicative. It may even be the reason why more people like it.

Also the engine is a tiny bit boring, but that too can be fixed. Intake, exhaust, top down.

If they make another new Mazdaspeed Miata, that will a turbo winner.

Well there is still some roll, but the reviews I have read seem to suggest the suspension has been revised recently so it does not have as much flop as the 16's did. I think they stiffened the suspension, mostly in the rear, for the extra weight of the RF roof, then people liked it so it was added to the soft tops as well.

Aren't there two suspension configurations though?

86 is old, I'd hope any new cars in the same genre would have improvements.

Yes, with or without the Club Bilstiens. I think the body roll had more to do with the springs and anti-roll bar and not an expert though, but I think it was those that changed.
