Another Baby Driven Car Decision
#51
I leave the top down on my S2000 all day, every day... in my garage. I probably put the top up a handful of times each year to wash it, etc. otherwise the top is down and stays down. I hate to repeat myself, but I will reiterate that my S2000 doesn't move unless it's top down weather. It's probably why it has less than 27k miles. I'd probably treat any four seat convertible replacement the same way. Replacing the S2000 with a hot hatch or sporty sedan probably would result in a car I'd use more.

Ha! The only time my top was ever down (when it still had a soft-top) was when I cleaned the interior!

with the kids though, it's been a bit different. I got my windows tinted in the back for the first time to protect them from the sun.

I must mention for your childs sake a couple things:
You can't be going top down with your young child. The wind noise will damage their ears permanently.
Also, I'm not one to think I need to put my kid in bubble wrap all the time but do consider a coupe or convertible coupe, your kid in the back rear facing and you get into an accident that disables a door or something... how quickly could you get them out? I thought about this situation and even front facing I wouldn't want to get into an accident where I needed to get my kids out of the car quickly in a coupe.
Keep the S, get a sportier 4 door daily. Sure the S may never move but if you get the right DD you won't mind as much.

No, "Job" likes to give you a hard time for your contradictory opinions.

With a rear facing car seat, you can place your baby inside it and buckle it up inside your home. All adjustments can be done inside. You then bring it outside and it locks into the base that is already secure in the rear seat. Press a button and the whole baby carrying carriage comes out.
No problem (I do have a high tolerance for BS though)
I probably have close to the most kids in Car Talk. 4 kids.
I have ALL of them in a small 2 door coupe, with 2 car seats.
That's the beater, still own my S2000 for about 9 years now. I have never owned a 4 door.
Few friends I have also have 2 kids and own a coupe. It can definitely be and is done.
Depends on you. Body type, height and age could play a factor. (I'm 5'8 150lbs, JDM body, lol)
Wife has a 4 door Civic Si and a Escalade, but the kids usually ride in my 2 door when it's just me.

^^ It can be done for sure. I'm 6 foot which makes it hard to get a child seat behind the driver and my wife is as tall as you which made 2 door options tough. Two door cars just look better.
