TOP!
I'm looking for a GTI 1.8T as well to replace my beater when it dies. From what I have gathered, they are cheap to mod, fast, and easy to maintain. Bad side "FWD"..but good for Traffic/Highway which is what I need it for.

I've got a 2001 GTI 1.8T with about 39K on it going up for sale.
Runs flawlessly. All recalls have been fixed (coilpacks, window regulators, etc.)
Modifications:
- CAI
- Dash lighting matched boost gauge
- REVO software for ECU (increased boost and timing providing 215hp and 240torque @ the crank)
Its a damn fast car for FWD. I'm willing to cut a good deal on it though.
If interested email me. scud924@hotmail.com

I love the 1.8T GTI. My GF's brother has a 2001 and its a blast to drive. Just a couple bolts ons and a chip and its a little pocket rocket with great gas mileage. From about empty it takes about 12 gallons and goes about 400miles. If you mash it, all the time I got about 200 miles. His car has a chip (22psi) downpipe, highflow cat, full turbo back exhaust 2.5", BOV, Front mount intercooler, cold air intake and its doing low 14's. THe overall build of the car feels much better than my civic EK. Id gladly trade cars with him.

I had a 2002 1.8T. I loved the engine. At altitude I would easily hang with the S2K crowd I took runs with.
I decided to trade it for a few reasons. First the suspension sucks. One would need to throw some money at it for even decent handling. It is nearly impossible to dial out all of the push. Second the seats are huge. Maybe VW thinks all people are fattys, but I would slide all over the place when I cornered. Finally, I wasn't too impressed with the VW dealer and service network.
