Default Any S2000 Owners Who Also Owns VW GTI?

Hello Ladies and Gents,

I never thought I would even consider a Volkswagen but somehow the GTI is very tempting. I just personally think that asking this question here would yield an unbiased replies.
So I'm assuming there might be only a handful current or ex-owners of GTIs from this group.

Thoughts?

Thanks!
SS

Reliability would be one.

I had a 2011 GTI which was reliable while I had it.
It had about 30,000 miles on it when it got flooded in hurricane sandy.
Now have a 2013 Golf R which has also been reliable to date. 37,000 miles.

However, I don't think these cars will ever be as reliable as a Honda. (or Toyota, Mazda, Subaru etc.)
My son's 2013 GTI had many issues one of which was a head bolt/stud breaking
and requiring about $5,000 in engine repairs. VW did "good will" the repair even though
the warranty had expired so that was good.

The new 2018's come with a 72,000 mile bumper to bumper warranty which is a great deal.

I've only had the '16 for a year and a half (and about 7,500 miles) but it's been trouble-free. My previous Golfs were mostly trouble-free as well, though the '08 R32's air con grenaded while under warranty and was fixed for free. Apparently that was a common issue.

If you're thinking GTi, just go ahead and go Mazdaspeed3. Faster, more raw, real LSD, and CHEAP. So insanely cheap.

I'm been on the DISI 2.3L platform for about 8 years now....had everything from stock 2010, little big turbo, built motor 600whp (2007 MS3), and now currently GTX3071 Mazdaspeed6. I have never had a walk home and maintenance has gotten super cheap on them.

If you want fun performance for daily driver = MS3/MS6 (MS6 only if you are willing to put in some time to make it right when you get it), more comfy / less raw DD = GTI.

Just my 2 cents.

I appreciate the comfort and refinement of the GTI after the driving experience of the S2000. They complement each other very well.

My wife is on her 2nd GTI. First one was a 2012 which we had for 4 years. Put on around 50k miles with zero issues.
We got a 2016 about 2.5 years ago and she's put on about 28k. Again zero issues.

on my 2nd gti. mk6 & now mk7.

both have been pretty reliable. Great DD, assuming you want it as a DD. I've averaged about 29 mpg for my last 7500 miles.

I don't expect it to be as reliable as a Honda, but the GTI is a better DD than anything from Honda.
I wouldn't get a MS3. Disgusting interior.
If you want a raw sports car, buy something thats not FWD lol.
