Best Beater for 10K or less

I'd love to have an ugly clown-shoe car with an s54 motor, or even s52 - but neither is less than $10k.
I still vote for the e36m3, since you said DD you can track, and not track car you can DD. The space, useable torque for daily driving conditions, and insulation/sound deadening all make for a better DD. As for an ap1 - I think an ap2 is bare minimum for for DD duties based on your current fleet.
I think that based on your current fleet, you'll be disappointed with the on track performance no matter what car you get - ap1, ap2, e36. The difference will be that if you get an ap1/2 you'll have a rather so so DD as far as comfort, ease, and amenities go.
Also, if you don't want to look like a hs/college kid, then a honda (including the s2000) is the last thing you want to step into. At work, I'm considered a ricer and all I've done to the car is OEM hardtop, 17x9 wheels 255 square, and an spg. Everything else is stock, including my exhaust... and that's already ricer status? Wtf?
Anyway, it sounds like you're really shopping for a track car that you can DD. In that case, get an AP1 or AP2 (it's a slightly better DD, though not by much)

Actually my commute is very short so I don't really care about comfort as much. I guess I'll list out priorities.
1. Fun, decent acceleration, handling, prefer top down capability
2. Reasonable cost of ownership (maintenance, insurance etc)
3. Cost of track parts, will log a decent amount of track time in this car, probably 75% vs only 25% for the GT-R.
4. Comfort/hauling capacity/gas mileage (basic normal dd things to look for)
With that being said I think the E36 M3 is out, too old too crappy (had one in college). Strongly looking at a S2000 and maybe RX-8 as a distant second. Open to other ideas I haven't thought of. Trying to find a E46 330i ZHP.

My daily is a E36 M3 sedan. S52 motor with S50 intake manifold, cams, full exhaust, undrive pullies, Dinan throttle body, etc. for less than $10k almost a year ago with 130k on the clock. It already had all the suspension bushings and cooling system upgrades. I love it for a daily.

An LS powered F-body would fit your criteria nicely. They are a LOT more fun to drive than most here would give them credit for. They are at least as reliable as any other 10 year old car. And performance parts for the GM f-body are plentiful and inexpensive.
