Best bet for used domestic, mid-size, V6 coupes?
Been looking around at these...
Chevy Monte Carlo
Chrysler Sebring
Ford Contour*
Dodge Avenger
Mercury Cougar
Oldsmobile Intrigue
*obviously not a coupe. Outside of the Mustang, has Ford offered a coupe slightly larger than the Escort/Focus in recent years?
Anyone have opinions on these or better ideas?

I'm wondering why you want a domestic V6? Is there some special club you're looking at and need to have V6 domestic?

Out of all those, I'd probably go for a Contour SVT, if you can find one.
... if you can find one of the less than 10,000 made.
I loved mine.

Dang...why such a short run?
Finally, many people didn't know about it. When I bought mine a lot of people asked why I would want a small Taurus. No one would have questioned me had I said I bought a Civic or base Integra for the handling but a Ford? It wasn't fast enough to brag about strait line speed yet no one assumed it could handle.
So Ford sold ~5000 the first year then around 2500 each year after. Oddly enough that makes it a very rare car. I actually see more of the new Bentleys that Contour SVTs.
Either way, the 2.5L Duratec is a gem to look at and to drive (not true of the 3.0L Duratecs).
Again, if you can find one that has been cared for it would be an excellent choice.
