Car under 30K

Wow, what a nice gift!
Have you thought about a hybrid? My understanding is a bit limited on the details, but don't you get a bit of a break tax time for having bought a hybrid? Your sister gets an economical car out of the deal, and you get to save some money April 15th. Win/win if you ask me!

Well, shes in her final year for pharmacy and doing rotations right now. She will be driving a lot from hospitals to pharmacies for about 9 months.[ In or around Philadelphia]
30K is my absolute budget because mortgage rates are high right now and I have not been getting any leads lately.
Anyways, the passat is out because she just didnt like it.
I was just checking out for something that was prefably awd and had decent gas mileage.
Can you guys give me reason as to why, I shouldnt purchase the s40? I thought it was a pretty safe and decent car?
Well, thanks for the input guys.

Don't get a Volvo, please...
The reason not to get one? It's mainly a car dependability issue. If you want to have different sources, I'm sure most of them...Consumer Repots, JDPower, Forbes, etc, all rank Volvo as quite a bit below the industry average.
Personal experience...we have owned two Volvos before, and both of them were just complete crap. Basically everything that was electrical (and even nonelectrical) had to be replaced. While they might be safe cars, we just couldn't put up with all the time it had to be serviced.

The Legacy is rated as very safe and it's awd and a larger car than the s40. If awd is one of your requirements the pool shrinks and the Legacy should be looked at.

Does she even care about cars? If not, save the money and get her a Corrolla.

uhg my 300whp Volvo V70 T5 has had very few problems in 90k miles. This is my 4th volvo and I've had nothing but good luck with them. I had a 240 that went to 300k miles. then a 240 and a V70 (non t5) under lease with few problems in around 80k miles.

Well considering awd, The Subaru GT Ltd is my personal fav, but for psuedo-lux, a 300 touring awd is also nice (but big), and she'd probably like the Audi A3 awd. Once she starts making money, will she buy herself a nicer car? If so, you may want to think of resale.

The A3 with AWD starts out at $35k.
