I don't think Japanese cars are considered "collectibles" because most of them are mass produced. My only explaination. *shrugs

3rd gen rx-7. less than 15k in the US, so in about 10, 20 years a completely stock, low mileage one will be a collector's item (for rotary fans at least)

There are some rare collectible Japanese cars for sale around where I live. Most of them are RHD cars, like the 70's Skyline, 280Z's, etc. They also have a 73's Toyota Century for sale at $8,000, which is pretty interesting.

Subaru Impreza 22B gets my vote. With a production run of only 424 cars, and wide body and 2.2 engine unique to the model, the 22B certainly meets the rarity criteria.

There are many that are collectible, but there just aren't as many here in the states. We didn't begin receiving Japanese automobiles in large quantity until the early 1970s, which only gives us about a 30 year age on the earliest of Japanese automobiles.

Also, Japan's entry into racing is much later than Europe (who really started the whole thing), so in the next few decades, there will be much more Japanese collectibles, especially in the US.

Toyota 2000GT is the most expensive Japanese collectable right now. Not sure where I read that from though.
