Current gen Audi TT
So yesterday I had the chance to drive an Audi TT 2.0tfsi. It was of my cousin and had always liked it but never had a chance to drive it. My first impression was:
Good low end torque,
Good grip,
feels very light, not as light as the S though
brakes are predictable.
AND LEAST AMOUNT OF BODY ROLL. I didnt drive it to the limit, but drove it fairly fast and on corners, it had a very minimum body roll.
And of course, the Double Clutch Tranny is just QUICK. Not that I would get it in Auto but still like the shifting a lot.
But here is the deal, she had gotten a call from Audi that there is a shortage of TTs so if she wants, the dealership can buy her car from her and end the lease. But since she was tailgated few months ago, the dealer didnt go with that deal and offered her a early lease release.
So my question was the what car out there, right now, can compete with the TT's handling, price, and interior? (not the fwd tt though, eventhough i drove the fwd)

Hmmm, right now? With that criteria? Nothing new, but pre-owned you may consider a Porsche C4/S. If $50k is your upper limit.
If you were willing to give up the AWD, the 135i would be a good alternative.
If you were willing to give FWD a try, you gotta go drive the GTI. It is worth it. There has only been two occasions where I test drove a car and just had to have it. First, the AP1 S2000. The second, the MK6 GTI.
However, if you can wait 10 months, you can have all of the above plus the TTS drivetrain in the Golf R.
I'm on "the list" to pick one of these bad boys up (if I can give up the GTI I now have).

I haven't checked the pricing lately on all 3 cars but the natural competitors that come to mind are a boxster and z4.

I second the 135i possibility. I test drove a 2011 model with the DCT transmission and paddle shifters and I was *very* impressed. The car was very quick, and I wasn't leaning on it at all!
Interior fit and finish is really nice with the premium package. The exterior, well you love it or hate it, but I found that it looks a lot better in person than it does in pics.
The suspension of the 135i is supposedly set up a little soft, but I found the ride to be on the harsher side and I detected minimal body roll. Of course I wasn't running it through a slalom at 70mph. Overall, it's a very fast, very fun car.
I'm definitely buying one in the near future, now the question is, do I take one off the lot, or order a 2012 model when they come out...

If and when you decide to give up the GTI, please PM as I'm local to you and would be interested in taking a serious look. I've sent you an email with additional contact information.
Sorry for the threadjack.
