A SLK would be a great gift for a 60th birthday.
i don't want to stereotype, but most older folks don't like getting in and out of small confining cars... if your dad do not plan on tearing up roads, then something like the sc430, clk cab, or even the 6-series or 3-series conv. would be a better choice.

Interesting thoughts. Basically the whole gambit. I think that if he is told "you're getting a sports car for your birthday" he won't let us buy one. But if it's sitting in the driveway he won't turn it down.

If it's too sporty he'll get tired of it really fast. Crawling in and out of low slung pocket rocket would get old for me too. If it's not sporty enough I'll hear comments like "The V6 Accord was just fine".

What he likes to do most is cruise through the Arkansas countryside. Which, incase you've never visited, can be quite nice at certain times of the year. Mid-Summer isn't one of them (:

I don't think there are any American convertibles that interest me, and I presume he would feel the same. He doesn't know much about cars, but he is opinionated My boss has a `65-ish MG for sale, but I don't know that that is what mom is looking for either.

Anyway, thanks for the ideas. I'll see what info I can get out of him without stiring his curiosity too much.

The new Saturn Ion Redline looks to be the next hot ticket.

I read R&T, they say the Saturn handles better than the Neon, but the Neon is faster in the straights. Pick which car you want

You guys are talking about an old guy liking a Saturn or Neon...give me a break...

C5 in any form sounds like a nice choice, especially for the money...but how come nobody has mentioned the 996 Cab...thats a really nice car...
