Went down this path recently myself, and bought a Charger SRT8. I grin ear to ear every time I start it up.
PM me if you want details on how I scored $13k in savings fully loaded.

How old are the kids? How much do you need for storage space? How about a Maserati GranSport or GranTurismo?

don't sell the Fit, you're wallet will thank you in the long run. Save the new fun car for the good weather (where's the fun nursing a mustang in the rain on the morning commute, just wasting gas). The Fit will last long enough to be a hand-me-down first car to your kids.
That being said, sounds like a debate between a 4-door lux performance or 2-door sports car with a vestigial back seat. What are you dong with the back seat? Do you need baby seats or booster seats in the back? If so, you're probably SOL with the mustang.

In the XK, you don't need the larger child seats, the buckets are so deep and set, they are virtual child seats as is. I know a lot of owners who do not use the child seat after a certain size.
Have you considered an A5?

2012+ 335i.
Mid to low 4's 0-60 with a $400 JB4, nice ride, room for four, decent interior, good handling and very good mpg.

I agree with ninjajwl - take a good look at an ISF. It does a lot of things really well. It has a good balance of performance, luxury, and daily drivability. Do you really need much more than a low 4 second 0-60 on the street?
Outside of the ISF (and the list your gave) have you considered an E60 M5? It has a big fun factor (V10, M level sportiness, etc.), and the used market has the pricing right in line with what you were hoping to spend. Typically I would shy away from BMW, but since you are already considering the E9X M3 I figured it was worth the mention.
