Future Collectible Cars...
Cnn Money have this article
http://money.cnn.com/money/galleries/2007/...bles/index.html
They list the cars that this guy thinks will be future collectibles. I agree with a few, but some I think he must be crazy. The 300C, the Audi TT? Come on. I think the 300C is ugly, the TT is nice, but not collector worthy.
I had hoped to see the S2000 on there. What do you guys think? Should we have made the list over the 300C? The Scion Xb?

There's collectible , and then there's classic - I think the S2000 will be classic.
To me, collectible is worthy or keeping and may appreciate a bit in the future, while a classic is a highly desirable car with some outstanding qualities that will have high value in the future.
The 300C could be a classic/collectible like the '57 Bel Air Chevy, Miatas will probably be collectibles.
Thinking of Japanese cars as classics or collectibles...
The Datsun 240Z/260Z will be a classic, the 280Z/ 2nd gen 300Z likely a collectible.
The Mazda 1st and 3rd gen RX-7s will be classics, 2nd maybe collectibles.
They Supra and 1st and 2nd gen MR2 will be a classic.

Bieng unique helps value. To me that suggest the TT has a better chance than the 300c. Although both represented evolution of design.
I bet Boxsters become collectible like the old bathtub. If I was going to pick up a car now that I thought would be a rare collectible, I would not pick a current production car but would find myself the best condition 3rd gen stock RX7 in some 65 years olds garage and store it.

that guy doesn't have any idea wtf he is talking about, IMHO. Just look at what makes a car "collectible" today - iconic styling, a limited number of survivors (whether due to limited production or otherwise), and/or historic provenance (car style/make made famous by events). Some of those factors are not predictable. Certainly you can't point to any car that is stylistically different and claim it will be collectible. Surely, any car that is produced in very limited quantities will likely quality, but a car that sells poorly and for a low price probably won't ever be collectible. And I don't think even the original Mini's are considered "collectible." Certainly the new ones will be less desirable than the originals as time goes on.
