Corvettes with bad drivers point you by. Your car is not the reason you're passing them. It's the driver.
A good driver in a Corvette will make you look silly with you 240hp car.
Just because "you" didn't like the M doesn't mean there is something wrong with it. It just means you prefer less hp, softer suspension, less performance oriented car.
You are right that HP may not be everything. But the M has huge CSL brakes, bigger tires, LSD, a rock hard suspension, hydraulic powersteering for better feedback, etc.
The Z4M is made to take people to the track.
The regular Z4 is made to get your dad to the grocery store.
Buy the car the suits you best.

Silversprint, I agree with everything that you said in your post above. Honestly, I think the Z4M is amazing, on paper that is. I _wanted_ it to be an amazing car when I drove it. I just didn't feel it.
Now, granted, I only had 2 test drives in a Z4M, and neither of those were on the track. Maybe if I tracked one, I would feel differently. I still love the look of the Z4M Coupe, and my head turns whenever I see one go by (which is rarely!).
All I'm saying to the original poster is: you need to _drive_ the cars before you make a decision. Too many people buy cars on specs alone.

That must be why 400+ HP Corvettes point me by in my 240HP E36 M3 on the track.
EDIT: I see your measured response above. It does seem that you're comparing the old addage that it's more fun to drive a slow car fast than a fast car slow. I bet the M Coupe was boring on a cruise around town. I bet at 10/10ths on the track, it's probably a bit more exciting than a 2.5 Z3.

So I officially made up my mind tonight. I just picked up an Alpine White on Imola Red/Carbon Trim Z4 M Coupe with Premium Package, Navigation, Heated Seats, and best of all a 3.2l engine that screams to 8000 rpms! This car reminds me a lot of my s2000, just improved. Man, am i glad to be out of a sedan and back into a proper sports car .
Pics will come soon. I'm enjoying driving it too much to bring out the camera.
