GTI Test Drive

I like the GTi IMO a lot of car for the money. I drove one with DSG tranny and fell in love with the tranny,
If I got one I'd wait for the 5-door that I think is going to be out here soon. More easy acess to the rear seats.
I'm not sure I like the engine as much as a NA engine a bit of lag but not horrible.
For a fwd it's not bad, the power is just about right not too much to cause wheel spin (in the dry).

5-door is already out
however, if you want the 07 changes, you need to wait a bit. The cars coming to dealers are 07 models with some 06 specs. They are not 15mm lower, their cruise control is still a separate stalk, they still have headlight washers, etc.

Another thing to be aware of is that it is a new platform, I hope all the bugs are worked out.
I have had 2 VWs in my life and have driven both for 7+ years and 100k+ miles, some people think that they are going to fall appart after the waranty is over.
I don't see why my Passat wouldn't last 200K miles. True there are things that go wrong trim that gets loose or power window motor, but most cars have little things that go from time to time.
I've never owned a turbo car so I'm a little biased against them not sure if they'll hold up as well as NA engine.
(IMO) 250hp/300-TQ mod that ppl talk about is nice, but this may cause TQ steer and tire spin etc. that could upset the handling that is fine with the stock power.

You're getting a GTI for practicality?

truth be told, we've had many cars in the past 15 years (all foreign, and a couple of 5.0 mustangs)....can't say any of them were problematic.
