HONDA selling civic type R engine crate

WTF is up with this?
One important caveat is you must be a member of HPD’s Honda Racing Line program, which requires a valid racing license from a recognized organization and results from your last two races, in order to buy the crate engine

I'm pretty skeptical that it would fit in a S2000 without heavy modification since the turbo location would be on the drivers side in an S2000. This is a FWD designed engine. If you have to compteley redesign the exhaust manifold and intake setup, it's hardly worth it for $6500 + k-series bell adapter and engine mounts + the custom fab work to only get 306hp at the crank.

But... 300 ft-lbs of torque does sound yummy!

I'd rather drop in a K20A with an aftermarket turbo set up.

Sounds like this is simply intended for people who race in things like the IMSA SportsCar Challenge with CTRs so that they can get replacement engines if they blown one during an event. (The ST class this year has cars like the Altima, MINI, A3, 328i, etc., so I assume we'll be seeing CTRs there next year.)

I don't think it's that restricted. The form says anyone that registered with HPD. All that requires is being in a nationally sanctioned body, and having 2 races in the last 12 months that aren't DNF. SCCA is a recognized body by HPD, so any autox'er with the time to register can theoretically qualify.

Would this engine work in rear engine cars like an Elise?
