I remember an article a while back with a guy who was overweight and bought a segway. He found he lost weight from standing the whole time while using the segway to travel to/from work.

i think it's a great idea. if that thing can go faster than the average walking pace, then this thing can get people out of cars on short trips, which would equal to less road congestion, less fuel consumption, and less pollution. i mean, how many people do think today who get into their cars and drive just to go 10 blocks or less?

It looks impractical but it does show technological significance. I'm sure this technology is going to be useful for handicapped people. Heck, Autotune seemed like a useless music industry tool to help singers be lazy, but now it is used for people who can't speak anymore (like Steven Hawking or Roger Ebert) so they can electronically speak with a recording of their voice.

for people who never experienced anything like this, go try it first then say if it's pointless.
i've ridden segway and other devise similar to this and all i can say is they're super fun!!
