Default 1990 Miata. Marioshi, It's Your Fault...

After seeing Marioshi's thread on his newly acquired NA Miata, I decided I had to get one. I have always liked the NA for what it represents in terms of sporting simplicity. I really never get to extoll the virtues of my 16' GT350 or 04' 996TT on the street and recently sold my Fiesta ST (which was a great car).

I lucked out and was able to buy a local, one owner 1990 in Classic Red with 26,800 original KM's and it's original tires that need replacing!! It's a time capsule through and through, even comes with a Bra (which I will never use). My plan is to upgrade the suspension and add some 15" wheels and just have fun (I would really like to autocross it). Because this one is so nice, I will likely not do anything drastic.

The fellow I bought it from has a very nice 16 car collection which includes some legendary Japanese vehicles in pristine condition (1991 NSX, 1990 300ZXTT, 1993 RX-7). The flagship of his collection which includes several Ferrari's and vintage 911's is a 1993 Jaguar XJ220 with less than a 1000 KM's.

**Sorry for the large images.

Awesome pickup. I find cars like these are really special in that you can really just have fun with them without alot of the stress and anx that comes with owning a high powered car.

watch the short crank nose wobble issue. You can get the upgraded bolt and keyway from Mazda- it was also an issue for the GTX in 88-89 which used the same 1.6 but beefed up for turbo duty. This was an issue with the early NA 1.6 from 90 to mid -91 I believe.

pure driving experience- great choice.

I was very aware of the SNC pulley wobble prior to purchase. This one is good. It seems a lot of the wobble issues stem from DIY owners or ill informed technicians removing the bolt to replace the crank seal/timing belt and not properly aligning the bolt when re-inserting. The design of the crank is certainly not ideal and Mazda of course changed it prior to the 1992 model year. The timing belt can be replaced without removing the pulley and if the crank seal is not leaking it is now advised to let it be.

I want to drive one with a LFX in it.... I think it'd end up with a project.
