If I had to choose an NSX I would go with an NA2 over the new car. The value of that car is only going up but I wouldn't really drive that car much because of this. If I was buying a car to drive I'd by a nicely optioned GTR (hell you may even be able to get a Nismo GTR for the same price of the new NSX) or a 6 speed R8.

The only sports cars that would sway me from a new NSX at a similar price point would be Evora 400 on the lower side and the new Vantage on the higher side. I am not into the super high tech style sports cars, but they eventually will be the norm. From what I read, new NSX owners are loving their cars, so that should be indication enough they did a good job with it. The R8 is also really nice.

Probably the same people who find Civic Type Rs and C7 Corvettes attractive... some people just like ugly things.

If I had to choose between the older NSX and newer... older all day long. The older NSX, despite being slow and a man-magnet, it has character and personality. I don't really care for the fanboy attention it gets, but it's better than the newer NSX trying to be an uglier Audi R8 without a manual option.

To be fair, the R8 doesn't have a manual option either anymore. And IMO the NSX looks better!

This review of the RWD R8 doesn't look particularly positive, either:

I put them on par for looks, but trust Honda's engineering and manufacturing more than Audi's.

Yeah, but the thing is, most people don't live in CA. I see another 987 maybe once a week. I don't often go to Cars & Coffee events, but when I do I'm usually the only Cayman there, 987 or otherwise, out of 60-100 cars. And Raleigh isn't exactly the middle of nowhere. See Ferraris and Lambos a few times a month, Teslas more than I can count (per day) and one of my neighbors has a new NSX. There may be A LOT of Porsches in CA, but that just means there as less elsewhere. And ditto just about any other low volume/expensive/exotic car. It's not a phenomena you can just apply to one brand. And the PCA club is full of people passionate about the brand, who enjoy doing events with their cars. And it doesn't matter if you own an old worn out 944 or a brand new 991 Turbo, all the same in the club.

But, you can still have a V10 powered R8 where you can row your own gears...granted it's the previous gen, it'll still look much better in 15 years than the new NSX. The chicken beak is not doing the NSX any favors.

True - I thought we were just talking about new cars. I'm still quite interested in a 1st-gen R8 V10 with the gated manual. And in the Spyder, with the top down (or rear window, which can slide down even with the top up for V10 listening... totally underrated feature)... yeah that noise alone is worth a lot to me. Can get a nice one for about $80k.

I think the 2nd gen R8 didn't really make it look any better or worse, although definitely a bit less distinctive. It looks like what Audi did with the TT each generation... it looks like the same car, just fiddled with a little bit to make it look "different" and actually a bit more generic.

Where can you get a manual V10 R8 for $80k? V10's all seem to stay well above the 100K mark with the V8's in the $60-80K mark.
