New Corvette makes Supra and others a dud.

Supra is a z4 coupe. The 2jz made the mkiv supra what it was.
The rumor is that Chevy will keep an FR Corvette in the lineup, I guess it wean the public.

If "mid-engine" just means "between the axles" then the Ford Model T is "mid engined." Hardly new or exotic technology. I imagine most of us think of "rear mid-engine" cars with the engine behind the driver but still between the axles in this respect.

I agree that the Supra release has been disappointing. I've have been following the release of it for seems like forever.. however, with no Manual option, it removes my immediate desire to own one. I've owned a C7 Z51 for going on 4 years and it is still a fantastic sports car. If the C8 is the same jump from C6 to C7 it will be hard to compete with. Just keep it under 70k and they should sell very well. Now if anyone is in the market for a C7 now is the time to buy with the great deals chevy has been putting out.

if it drives like a cayman/box then yeah it makes a whole lot irrelevant including the junior Porsches and maybe the 911 too. It’s the most interesting new Vette since the 5th gen. (Not sure how relevant the Z4 and the Toyota rebadge were in the first place anyway.)
I guess it depends on the commute and the weather but Chevy’s are robust and not crazy to maintain. Not sure why it couldn’t be a daily.

Some people refer to the S2000 as mid-engine if I recall

Technically the S2000 (and Model T) are front mid engined cars. But we tend to think of "mid-engine" as having the engine behind the driver which is technically rear mid engined.

The technical definition of a mid-engine vehicle is always A++ for starting arguments on the Internet. Even my Nissan Stagea is technically mid-engine (uses Nissan FM platform).

Back in my Honda fanboy days I used to think "pushrod V8 is low tech." Now I know better and who cares if it doesn't rev out as high? Bang for your buck the Vette is a steal. HP/L? Who cares.

HP/L is a fun measurement and DOHC (or OHC in the first place) is useful technology. But the SBC is a beast. You can talk it down all you want, but it makes tons of power, gets good gas mileage, has (relatively) low maintenance costs, and is really lightweight. Hell, people slap 'em into S2ks all the time.
